みなさんこんにちは、新年が始まりましたがいかがお過ごしでしょうか。

This week I will talk about a “survival tip” if you ever travel to the UK and start a conversation with a local!

今週の記事では、イギリス旅行で現地の人と会話をする際に役立つフレーズをお伝え致します

You will find that they will almost always start by talking about the weather. Whether it’s hot or cold, raining lightly, or chucking down hail, the weather is a source of endless entertainment for us. Leading many to believe that we British must be obsessed with the weather!

現地に行けばすぐに気づきますが、イギリス人はみな天気の話をよくします🌞☔⛄🌀

その日がどんな天気であれ、天気について話することは私達にとってはとても自然で普通の会話なんです

しかもそれは、世界中の人にとってイギリス人が天気に憑りつかれていると思われても仕方ないくらいにです。ｗｗｗ

There might be some truth to that as in Britain the weather is changeable at the drop of a hat, so there’s always something to talk about. Sometimes you can almost experience all 4 seasons in 1 day!

イギリスの天気はコロコロ変わりやすいので、私たちは日常会話の中で自然に天気について話すことが多いのかもしれませんね。

１日で4シーズンを体験できる日だって稀じゃないんですよ

But the real reason we talk about the weather is that it is a safe subject when first meeting someone you don’t know. Neither person has to ask or give any personal details. It’s only once you get to know someone a little better, we will tell you our names or any further personal details.

とは言いつつも、我々が天気についてよく話すのは、

初対面の人と話をする際には、”天気”が最も無難なトピックだからというのが本当の理由にあたります

まずは無難な話から始めていって、少しずつ仲良くなってきたところで名前や趣味などの個人的な話をしていきます。

So, if you ever are in the situation and have to talk about the weather here are a few phrases to remember!

もしみなさんが、天気の話をしなければならなくなった時に備えて、覚えておくと役に立つ天気についてのフレーズをご紹介します。

Phrase	Meaning
Breezy	It’s windy（風がある）
It’s howling out there	It’s very windy（とても風が強い）
A bit nippy	It’s a bit cold（少し冷たい）
Chilly	It’s a cold day（寒い日）
Bleak	It’s a cold and dark day（冷たくて暗い日）

Drizzling	It’s raining lightly（少し雨が降っている）
It’s just spitting	It’s raining very lightly, not enough to use an umbrella（傘をさす程ではない少しの雨）
Raining cats and dogs	It’s raining heavily（どしゃ降りの雨）
It’s chucking it down	It’s raining very heavily（どしゃ降りの激しい雨）
You’ll get soaked	It’s raining very heavily and you should avoid going out（外出しないほうがよい程の大雨）
Knee deep	It’s snowed a lot（たくさんの雪が降っている）
It’s slushy	The snow is melting（雪が溶けている）
Aren’t we having unseasonal weather?	The weather is not right for the time of the year（季節に合わないような異常な天気ですね）
