Hello everyone,

I hope you’re keeping warm in the cold January weather. This is usually the coldest time of the year here in Japan, but it’s still okay to out for a walk. It’s even colder in Ireland, with the daytime high of 3 degrees, followed by -2 degrees tonight. Chilly! We don’t even have kotatsus in Ireland. People use central heating to keep the whole house warm. Recently, however, energy costs have risen dramatically due to the war in Ukraine and rising oil prices. The costs have risen so much that Ireland’s government gave everyone money off their electicity bills. Maybe they can save some money on heating by getting a kotatsu and having only one warm room in the house. I think it’s very relaxing under one, but it’s too relaxing because I sometimes fall asleep in there! Does your home have one?

Here at Hario this week our students are very busy preparing for the next eiken test. We have students taking almost every level of the eiken test, from 5th to pre 1st. Many of them are so focused and motivated to pass that they have been coming to Hario at weekends or on holidays. For example last Monday was a public holiday to celebrate the coming of age day in Japan. This gave many of our students an oppotunity to come to Hario and brush up on their grammar before the big test. We’re proud of your hard work, good luck to all of you!

みなさんこんにちは

１月となり、寒さが増してきた季節ですが温かく過ごせていますか？？

日本では最も寒い季節ですが、私はまだ散歩できるくらいの気温です

 

アイルランドの本日の気温はは昼間の気温が3度くらいで夜中に－2度になるそうです。

寒いですが、地元の人はこたつなんて持っていません！！！

 

アイルランドでは家の中にあるセントラルヒーティングシステムを使い、家全体を温めて過ごしています

困ったことに、ウクライナとロシア間の戦争が原因となり、石油価格が高騰したのに伴ってセントラルヒーティングシステムを利用するのに必要なエネルギー代がとても高くなってしまいました。

 

アイルランド政府が国民のみんなにその費用を賄えるような取り組みをしてくれた程なんです。。。

 

日本のようにこたつを使って、一部屋家族団らんで暖まれる部屋を作ることで国全体の費用を抑えることができるんじゃないかと思います。

 

ただ、こたつは怖いものでとてもリラックスできてしまうんです。

気づかないうちに寝ている。。。なんてこともあります

 

みなさんの家にはこたつがありますか？？
