Are you looking forward to Golden Week? What are your plans for the holiday? In terms of weather, Golden week is my favorite holiday of the year. It’s nice and warm without being too hot. Look at the other holidays throughout the year: winter vacation is cold, Obon is scorching hot, Silver week might have typhoons. But you can always rely on a few nice days in Golden week. I haven’t fully decided what to do yet, but I’m going to stay in and around Fuji to avoid any heavy traffic during the big migration. At the beginning of golden week, millions of people all over Japan travel back to their hometowns to visit friends and family. The main flow of movement is people leaving the big cities to go back to smaller towns all over the country. This causes huge traffic back-ups on the highways. This unfortunately can’t be avoided if the whole country has a few days of vacation. In Ireland, however, national holidays usually only occur one day at a time. People can reserve time off for longer periods at any time of the year. So, you can choose when to take a trip, whether it’s in February, May, October, or any other time. This reduces big migrations of people at the same time, however, it still gets very busy at peak times like June for example. Dublin airport had delays of up to three hours at security last summer! Irish people like to take trips abroad for their holidays, with the most popular destinations being Spain and France. I’m not sure why they go to the south of Spain, it’s far too hot for us. Spanish people take a “siesta”, a short nap in the afternoon when it’s hot. Irish people don’t do this and stay outside. They end up getting sunburned and suffer from overheating. I’ve seen many red people arriving back from trips to Spain. I think the main reason that Irish people go to such hot countries is that it’s generally cold all year round in Ireland, so they need to experience an extreme change of climate. I’m going to make the most of the weather now while it’s still mild.

ゴールデンウィークを楽しみにしていますか休暇の予定は何ですか？天気に関して言えば、ゴールデンウイークは私にとって一年で一番好きな休日です。暑すぎず、ちょうど暖かくて過ごしやすいですよね。年間を通して他の祝日を見てみると、冬休みは寒くて、お盆は猛暑、シルバーウィークには台風が来るかもしれません。しかし、ゴールデンウイークには晴れの日が多いと思います。まだ具体的な予定は決まっていませんが、大移動中の渋滞を避けるために、富士山周辺で過ごすつもりです。

 

ゴールデンウイークの初めには、日本中の何百万人もの人々が友人や家族を訪ねるために故郷へ旅行します。主な流れは、人々が大都市を離れて全国の小さな町へ戻ることです。これにより、高速道路では大規模な渋滞が発生します。残念ながら、国全体が数日間の休暇を取る場合、これを避けることは難しいです。しかし、アイルランドでは通常、祝日は一度に1日だけです。そのため、一年中いつでも、長期間の休暇を取ることができます。例えば、2月、5月、10月など、旅行する時期を選べます。これにより、同時に多くの人が移動することは少なくなりますが、それでも、例えば6月などのピーク時には非常に混雑します。

 

ダブリン空港は昨年の夏、保安検査で最大3時間の遅延がありました。アイルランド人は休暇に海外旅行をするのが好きで、最も人気のある目的地はスペインとフランスです。なぜ彼らがスペイン南部に行くのか不思議です。私たちにとっては暑すぎます。スペイン人は暑い午後に「シエスタ」、つまり短い昼寝をしますが、アイルランド人はそうせず、外に留まります。彼らは日焼けをし、過熱に悩まされます。私はスペインへの旅行から戻ってきた多くの赤くなったアイルランド人を見てきました。アイルランド人が暑い国に行く主な理由は、アイルランドでは一般的に一年中寒いため、極端な気候の変化を経験する必要があるからだと思います。天気がまだ穏やかな今のうちに、有効に活用したいと思います。
