Hello everyone,

June is only a few days away, and soon the rainy season will be here. While most countries have the usual four seasons, the rainy season is a fifth extra season for most of East Asia. People say it rains a lot from the second week of June to the third week of July. To be honest, Ireland can have a similar rainy season at any time. But this can happen at any time of the year. Here in Fuji, we have quite a temperate climate, so the rainy season doesn’t get severe. I think we are located in one of the mildest areas of Japan for the weather. Not the hottest summer and no snow in the winter. Lucky us!

Recently, our students have been telling me about their school trip this year. Most junior high school trips take place in May. It seems like the most popular destination is Kyoto. The tourist spots in Kyoto are usually full of people, but at this time of the year they must be especially packed. It’s been a few years since I last visited Kyoto, but I remember all of the beautiful places I visited. Kiyomizu temple, kinkakuji, and so on. It turns out our students also visit those spots, and they are just as impressed as foreigners are to see the sights. I remember my high school trip back when I was 16. We went to the countryside in western Ireland. We stayed in a special area called “Connemara”. In this part of Ireland, people speak the Irish language in daily conversation. Despite studying it in school, my Irish wasn’t very good, because we all speak English every day in Dublin, where I’m from. We were encouraged to speak Irish with the local people to improve our skills. I wasn’t confident at speaking it at first, but the short stay there helped us improve a little. The trip was a really enjoyable memory of my school life. I hope our students make great memories on their trips.

みなさん、こんにちは

6月がもう目と鼻の先となり、梅雨シーズンがやってきましたね

 

ほとんどの国では季節が4つありますが、日本を含めたアジア諸国では5つ目のシーズンとなっていますよね。

 

例年だと、6月の2週目から7月の3週目にかけて雨がたくさん降っていますね

実は、アイルランドでも似たような梅雨の時期があります。

といっても、アイルランドでは1年を通して雨が降るんです

 

ここ富士市では、割と過ごしやすい気候のため、梅雨の季節でもそこまでひどい雨にはならないんですよ。

過ごしやすい気候という意味では、私たち富士市民はとても恵まれているかもしれませんね

 

だって、夏はそこまで熱くはなりませんし、冬にも雪はめったに降りませんよね

 

最近、生徒たちから修学旅行の話をよく聞きます。

ほとんどの中学生の修学旅行は5月に予定されていました。

 

最も人気の場所は京都のようですね

特にこの時期の京都の観光地は人がいっぱいです

 

前回京都に行ってからしばらく経っていますが、訪れた場所の綺麗な景色を忘れられません

清水寺、金閣寺などなど

 

ハリオの生徒たちも同じような場所に行ったとのことでした。

 

私が16歳の時に修学旅行でアイルランドの田舎に行った時のことを今でも覚えています

コネマラという特別な場所に滞在しました。

 

この地方の人々はアイルランド語を日常生活の中で使っていました。

私たちの学校がある地域では常に英語で話していたので、私のアイルランド語はあまりうまくなかったんです

 

その体験を通じて、アイルランド語を勉強する大切さを実感したことを今でも覚えています

最初は自分の言葉に全く自信がありませんでしたが、短い滞在のおかげで少しは上達したことと思います

 

ハリオの生徒たちも修学旅行を通じて、忘れられないような思い出作りができるといいなと思います
