Hello everyone,

It’s June already! That means that Hario’s parent’s day is on the way. Our parents’ days begin at the end of this month and continue on through July. It’s a great opportunity to see how much their child’s English has grown over the past few months. It’s also a good chance to see how the P.L.S. system evolves and progresses through the different ranks. Our students will be in a completely different rank from one year ago, so there are different objectives and requirements. For example, they progress from word level to sentence level English and so on. I hope the parents will be proud of their child’s progress this year.

 

みなさん、こんにちは。

　もう六月ですね！ということは、もうすぐHARIOの授業参観日です。

今月末から七月いっぱいまで続きます。この数か月の子供たちの英語の上達ぶりを見る事ができるよい機会です。それと同時に異なるランクを見る事でPLSシステムがどのように展開し、進展していくかを知るよいチャンスでもあります。生徒たちは一年前とは確実に違うランクになっているでしょう。なので、学習内容も要求されるレベルも違っています。例えば、単語レベルから文レベルの英語になっているという感じです。授業参観でご父兄に子供たちの今年の進歩を誇らしく思っていただければ嬉しいです。

I’ve been living here for over four years, and I want to show you some of the main differences between Japanese and western culture from a foreigners perspective. The topic of each video is something that surprised me when I came here. Last week, I talked about chopstick etiquette. I knew that people used them here, but I had no idea there were so many rules! I still remember the first time I made a faux-pas and tried to pass food from chopsticks to chopsticks. That’s when I started learning about the basic rules and manners. Enjoy the videos, there are more to come.

This weekend will be my first trip to Disneyland Tokyo. I think I am just as excited as my daughter. I’ll let you know how we got on next week.

みなさんは、フェイスブックを利用されていますか。そうであれば、HARIOのフェイスブックページをご覧ください。定期的に写真や動画をアップしています。最近では、「カルチャーショック　ジャパン」と題した動画をアップしました。日本在住四年の私が、外国人の視点から日本と西洋文化の主な違いのいくつかを紹介したいと思います。各動画のトピックは私がここに来た時に驚かされたことについてです。先週は箸のマナーについて触れました。日本では箸を使うということは知っていましたが、ルールがこんなに沢山あるとは思ってもみませんでした！最初の箸に関する失敗を今でも覚えています。箸から箸へ食べ物を渡そうとしたのです。これをきっかけに基本的なルールとマナーを学び始めました。是非、動画をご覧ください。他にもいろいろありますよ。

 

この週末は初めての東京ディズニーランドです。私も娘と同じくらいわくわくしています。来週、その様子をご報告しますね。
