Hello everyone,

Happy New Year! It’s our first week of the year here at Hario. I hope you had a nice and relaxing holiday. I’m looking forward to asking all of my students how their winter vacation went. My daughter and I went to Ireland for the first time in six years! It’s an incredibly long journey, consisting of two flights. Our first flight was from Tokyo, Haneda to Frankfurt, Germany. Usually, this flight takes about 11.5 hours, over Siberia and then Europe. This time, however, flights aren’t permitted over Russia, because of the war. So, our flight went east and north, through the Bearing straight between Russia and Alaska, up over the North Pole and then south through Sweden. This flight took 12.5 hours, which is a long time to be stuck in a small seat on the plane. I can’t sleep on airplanes, so I passed the time watching TV and movies. Once we arrived in Frankfurt, we took one more 2-hour flight to Dublin. It was great to get home to see my family and friends. Ireland is 9 hours behind Japan, so for the first few days I woke up at 5AM and couldn’t get back to sleep. Once we got over the jet lag, we enjoyed Christmas day with my parents, brothers and nephews. My two nephews are my daughter’s only cousins, and despite living thousands of kilometers apart, they have exactly the same hobby, Minecraft. They all had a great time playing games together at home. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t good as two storms passed over Ireland in our first week there. As a result, we didn’t go out much, and when we did, we wrapped up well like eskimos. We went to a Japanese restaurant in Dublin to see if sushi is just as good abroad. I can confirm that Japan still has the best sushi by far. My daughter spoke Japanese when she ordered something, and the waitress was surprised and said she had perfect pronunciation. We explained that’s because she lives in Japan. We rang in the new year watching movies at home as a family. We came back to Japan on Saturday via two more long flights, and I’m already over the jet-lag, so it’s great to be back in Fuji. 今週から２０２４年のハリオの授業が始まりました。皆さん、ゆっくりと素敵な休日を過ごされたと思います。

生徒の皆さんに冬休みはどうだったか聞くのが楽しみです

私は娘と6年ぶりにアイルランドへ行ってきました！　乗り換えがあり、信じられないほど長い旅でした

最初のフライトは東京、羽田からドイツのフランクフルトまででした。

通常、この飛行にはシベリアを経てヨーロッパを経由し、約 11 時間半かかります。

しかし今回はロシアの戦争のため、ロシア上空の飛行ができません。そのため、ロシアとアラスカの間のベアリングをまっすぐに通過し、北極点を超え、スウェーデンを南を通過しました。フライトには12時間半かかりました。飛行機の中では眠れないので、テレビや映画を見て時間を過ごしました。フランクフルトに到着したら、ダブリンまでさらに2時間のフライトに乗りました。

やっとアイルランドに着き、家族や友達に会えて嬉しかったです。アイルランドは日本より9時間遅れているので、最初の数日は朝5時に目が覚めてから眠れませんでした。時差ぼけを克服した後、両親、兄弟、甥たちと一緒にクリスマスの日を楽しみました。私の 2 人の甥は娘の唯一のいとこであり、何千キロも離れて住んでいるにもかかわらず、マインクラフトというまったく同じ趣味を持っています。みんな家で一緒にゲームをして楽しい時間を過ごしました。残念ながら、アイルランドに滞在して最初の週に 2 つの嵐がアイルランドを通過したため、天気は良くありませんでした。その結果、あまり外出しなくなり、外出するときはエスキモーのように厚着をしました。私たちは寿司が海外でも同じように美味しいかどうかを確かめるために、ダブリンの日本食レストランに行きました。日本の寿司がダントツにおいしいと断言できます娘は日本食屋で注文するとき、日本語を話しました。それを聞いていた日本人のウェイトレスは彼女の日本語の発音が完璧であることに驚いていました。
