Now that it’s mid-July, festival season is here! Last weekend the Fuji Port Festival took place, and next weekend is the Fuji Festival in Chuo Park. I went to the Port festival on Sunday evening to see the fireworks. They are a part of every festival here, and were very impressive as usual. I was surprised at the variety of fireworks that were on display. They made shapes in the night sky, such as smiley faces, umbrellas and hearts. I even saw one firework that made Doraemon’s face! Every city in Japan has a big festival or “Matsuri” every year. It’s time to celebrate being a part of the city and getting the local community together. Most cities even have their own festival song and dance. Here in Fuji we have the “Fuji Samba”, which I think has a bit of a carnival feel to it. People line the streets outside Chuo Park and dance to it in a big parade. The people who take part and dance in the parade are often local organisations. Another big part of the festivals here is the food. There are many stalls set up with vendors selling all kinds of tasty local food. My personal favorite is fried chicken, followed by shaved ice to cool down. It’s very hot and humid at the festivals so cool drinks or ice is a must! And finally, every festival finishes with a big fireworks display in the evening, usually by a local river. The local communities must spend a fortune on all of the fireworks. For example, the display at Sumida River, Tokyo costs about 150 million yen to put on. That’s a lot of money going up into the sky! But it’s worth it to experience the true summer festivities of Japan.

みなさん、こんにちは。

もう７月も半ばですね。

そう、「お祭り」の季節がきました。

先週は、富士港まつりでした。そして今週は富士祭りです。

私は港まつりの花火を見て、その花火がとてもよかったです。

夜空に、スマイリーフェイスやからハート、ドラえもんの顔の花火も打ちあがりました。

 

日本では、どの町にも「おまつり」があります。

町を祝い、地域の皆が集まります。

またそれぞれの祭りの歌や踊りがあります。

富士市には「富士サンバ」という歌と踊りがあります。

カーニバル調の曲で、日曜日は中央公園沿いを市民が踊りパレードをします。

またお祭りでは「食べ物」「出店」も楽しみでもあります。

私のお気に入りは、フライドチキンとかき氷です。

あつい日にはかき氷はかかせません。

そしてどのお祭りも花火でクライマックスをむかえます。

その町ごとの願いをこめて。

東京都は隅田川の花火大会の一億五千万円も費やすのだそうです。

すごいお金ですね。そらに散ってしまう花火に・・・

とはいえ、日本の夏祭りはとても見る価値があるものだと私は思います。
