Hello everyone,

  How’s it going? We got the results back from the Eiken interview tests yesterday. Congratulations to everyone who passed, which was most of the students. Well done. I know the students who didn’t pass will be disappointed but they will get another chance next time so don’t give up. Some of the students who passed this time were on their second attempt.

It was a long weekend for some people with the Marine Day holiday on Monday. Did you do anything special? My wife and I took a trip to Tokyo. I saw an exhibition of Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci. It showed lots of sketches the artists made before they made their final paintings or sculptures and explained about their creative rivalry. The paintings were fascinating and the quality of the art was amazing.. The exhibit talked about how Da Vinci thought that painting was the higher form of art and Michelangelo thought that sculpture was. The two processes are reverse. With painting, you create something from nothing, starting with a blank canvas. With sculpture, you start with a solid block of stone and chip away at it until the work of art reveals itself. It made me think about creativity and it was a great exhibition. I recommend it to anyone, whether you know a lot about art or not. I haven’t been to many museums recently but it’s always interesting to learn about art or history, even if you are not an expert. Have you been to a museum recently?

みなさん、こんにちは。

いかがお過ごしですか。

昨日は、英検の２次試験の結果が発表とないました。合格した皆さん、おめでとう。合格できなかった皆さん、がっかりしていると思いますが次のチャンスがあります。諦めないで、チャレンジしましょう。

今回合格した生徒さんの中には、２度目のチャレンジの生徒さんもいました。あきらめなかったからこその結果だと思います。

 

先週は、月曜日が海の日で祝日だったので３連休でした。

皆さんは、何かしましたか

私は妻と東京へいきました。

ミケランジェロとレオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチの美術展へ行きました。

作品がつくられる前のたくさんのスケッチが展示されていました。

すばらしい作品ばかりでした。

絵画は真っ白なキャンバスから作り上げられ、彫刻はまんまの石から作り上げられるわけです。「創造力」とはと考えさせられました。

すばらしい美術展で、皆さんのお勧めします。

最近、美術館には行っていませんでしたが、芸術や歴史を学ぶのはとても面白いです。たとえ、その専門知識がなくとも。
