Why doesn’t England have a national dress?

Almost every country has some form of national dress, Japan has the Kimono, Scotland has the kilt, and German has the lederhosen which is worn to identify and celebrate their country.

世界中のほとんどの国で、それぞれの伝統的な衣装というものがあるかと思います。

日本では、着物。スコットランドではキルト衣装、

ドイツでは、レーダーホーゼンと呼ばれる革のズボンなどがそれにあたります。

But England, famous for its rich traditions and customs, doesn’t have one.

しかし、様々な伝統や独特の衣装が有名なイングランドですが、伝統的な衣装というものがないらしいのです

Many have wondered why we don’t.

ほとんどの人が、「なぜ僕たちの国には伝統的な衣装がないのだろうか？」と、

そう思っているらしいのです。

But we do have some well-recognised outfits that are not worn typically by the general public.

しかし、イギリスには有名な「モリスダンス」が存在します。

Morris Dancers

Morris dancing is a form of English folk dance, it is danced in groups in mainly white while wearing bell pads on their shins.

モリスダンスはイングリッシュフォークダンスの一種で、数人からなるグループで踊られ、

膝に鈴が付いている衣装を着ることが多いです。

Beefeaters

Originally, they were used as guards of prisoners in the Tower of London and protecting the crown jewels. But these days Beefeaters are used as tour guides to the now tourist attraction.
