Hello everyone,

Halloween week is here at last! Starting this Wednesday, we will have a full week of Halloween fun here at Hario. So, remember to wear a costume to scare us or make us laugh. I’ll wear a costume too, but I’m not letting you know what it is yet. You’ll have to come to Hario and see for yourself. Once Halloween week is over, you’ll be able to find photos on our instagram too. I’m looking forward to a really fun week! I wonder who will have the best costume? Are you wondering why people wear costumes at Halloween? It began over 1,000 years ago in Ireland. People believed that the dead spirits would return to Earth at this time of year. That idea is quite similar to Obon in Japan. During Halloween, people used to dress up as ghosts to welcome or scare away the dead spirits who return. The ghost costumes eventually evolved into other costumes, and now anything goes. You can see all kinds of weird and wonderful costumes all over the world every Halloween. One such example is the famous party on the streets of Shibuya in Tokyo.

Meanwhile here at Hario, our Mini-Speech contest parent’s days got underway last week. This gives all of our speech students the chance to perform in front of the parents. Standing up and speaking in front of people can be a nerve-wracking experience for anyone. For a young kid to do that in another language is very brave. I’m really happy with how they have done so far. There has been a great turn up from the parents, who have showed up to support their kid’s speech performance. They also got to see the progress they are making in English. They are all looking forward to impressing their parents here at Hario.

いよいよハロウィンウィークですね　今週水曜日からの, ハリオでのハロウィンを楽しみます　私たちを怖がらせたり、笑わせたりする仮装をわすれないでくださいね！私も仮装をしますが、それはまだ内緒です

ハリオに来て私の仮装をチェックしてくださいね！ハロウィーン・ウィークが終わったら、インスタグラムにも写真をアップしますよ～。本当に楽しい一週間になりそうです誰が一番いい仮装をするんでしょうね？

ところでなぜハロウィンでコスチュームを着るのか、不思議に思いませんか？それは1000年以上前にアイルランドで始まったんですよ　人々はこの時期に死者の霊が地上に戻ってくると信じていたんです　その考え方は、日本のお盆とよく似ています。ハロウィンの時期、人々は戻ってくる死者の霊を歓迎したり追い払ったりするために、お化けの仮装をしたんです。幽霊の仮装はやがて他の仮装へと進化し、今では何でもありです。毎年ハロウィーンになると、世界中でさまざまな面白い、そして素晴らしい仮装を目にすることができます。東京・渋谷の路上で行われる有名なパーティーもそのひとつですよね。

ハリオでは先週からミニ・スピーチ・コンテストの保護者会が始まりましたこれは、スピーチコンテストに参加する生徒たちが、保護者の前でスピーチする機会を持つことです。人前に立って話すというのは、誰にとっても緊張するものです。小さい子が日本語以外の言語でスピーチをするのは、とても勇敢なことです　私は子供たちの今までの取り組みにとても満足しています。保護者の方々も、子供のスピーチを応援するために保護者会に参加してくれました　そんな親御さんたちは、彼らの英語が上達しているのを見る事が出来たでしょう　生徒さん達みんな、ハリオで両親を感動させることを楽しみにしています
