What’s the most popular sport in your country?

Hello everyone,

It’s October already! I can’t believe how fast the months are flying by. The hot weather hasn’t really let up recently, so it’s easy to forget how far through the year we are. It was another hot weekend, so I went to the park yesterday to have a little “kick around”. That means my daughter and I kicked a football around the park. There was no actual soccer game, just kicking the ball to each other. I ran around a little and am feeling stiffness in my legs today! I need to run more often, I think I’m getting old! Sports are everywhere now. Last weekend I watched some of the rugby world cup and the Asia games. Japan are doing well in this tournament. I saw the Harimoto siblings playing table tennis, and Miss Harimoto won against the world number one, so well done to her. Hard luck to Japan’s men’s volleyball team, who lost a close match against Egypt last night.

In terms of the most popular sports, Japan and Ireland have some similarities and some differences. In both countries, soccer is hugely popular, and number one in Ireland. Japan’s most popular sport is baseball, which is almost non-existent in Ireland. I’ve never seen anyone play baseball in Ireland. It’s probably too cold to stand around out in the field. Another popular Japanese sport that isn’t in Ireland is sumo. On the other hand, Ireland’s second most popular sport is completely unknown in Japan. It’s called “Gaelic football”, and looks like a mix between rugby and soccer. Players can pick up the ball, which is round like a soccer ball. They then kick the ball into the goal for 3 points, or over the bar for 1 point. It’s a fast and exciting game, but isn’t played outside of Ireland. Otherwise, I think both countries have similar popular sports. Tennis, rugby, golf, and athletics are all popular worldwide. What’s your favorite sport to watch or play?

もう10月ですね！月日が経つのは早いものですね。このところ暑い日が続いているので、今年があとどれくらいなのか忘れてしまいそうです。今週末も暑かったので、昨日は公園に行って少し「キック・アラウンド」しました。つまり、娘と公園でサッカーボールを蹴って遊びました。もちろん実際のサッカー練習でもなく、ただボールを蹴り合うだけだったんですけどね。でも少し走り回っただけで、私の足は筋肉痛です。もっと運動しないとですね…。歳をとったのかな！

今、たくさんのスポーツ競技がやっています～　先週末はラグビーのワールドカップとアジア大会を見ましたこの大会では日本が頑張ってますね　張本兄妹が卓球をしているのを見ましたが、張本さんは世界ランキング1位の人に勝ったんですよく頑張りました

残念だったのは男子バレーボール日本代表です。昨夜のエジプト戦で惜しくも負けてしまいました。

最も人気のあるスポーツという点では、日本とアイルランドは似ているところもあれば、違うところもあります。両国ともサッカーは大人気で、アイルランドではナンバーワンです日本で最も人気のあるスポーツは野球だが、アイルランドには野球は存在しないといってもいいくらいで、私自身もアイルランドで野球をしている人を見たことがありません　寒くてグラウンドで立っていられないのでしょうね(笑)(笑)。アイルランドにないもう一つの人気のある日本のスポーツは相撲ですよね。一方、アイルランドで2番目に人気のあるスポーツは、日本ではまったく知られていないないのです。「ゲーリック・フットボール」と呼ばれ、ラグビーとサッカーをミックスしたようなスポーツです。プレーヤーはサッカーボールのような丸いボールを拾うことができ、ボールをゴールに蹴り込んで3点、バーを越えて1点獲得できるのです。スピーディーでエキサイティングなゲームですが、アイルランド以外ではプレーされていないんです　その他、両国には似たような人気スポーツがあると思います。テニス、ラグビー、ゴルフ、陸上競技は世界的に人気があります。あなたの好きなスポーツは何ですか？
