Time to turn on the air-conditioners

Hello everyone,

It’s nice and warm again today. I was getting worried that the rainy season had started early. It was raining quite a lot in the past week. It’s nice to see some blue skies again. We still have another few weeks to go before rainy season is officially underway. June is just around the corner. That’s when the real summer humidity starts to creep in. In Ireland, it almost never gets humid, so I wasn’t used to it when I first came here. Now, 9 years later…I’m still not used to it. Oh well, I’m thankful for the invention of air-conditioners. I couldn’t understand the buttons on the remote at first, so I’ve included a handy picture to help us foreigners figure it out. I wonder how people kept cool before air-con was around?

By now, hopefully all of our students have written their speeches. That’s step one of many, many steps done and dusted! I’ve seen some interesting topics among them. It’s time for us to translate them into English and see how they sound. Our students will have to wait to get their speech homework sometime in the future. Are they excited? Nervous? Probably both. It’s extremely nerve-wracking to speak in front of people, even in your native language. Now try doing it in a foreign language. It becomes even more frightening. But facing your fears and putting on a brave face makes you a stronger person in the end. Good luck for the year of speeches ahead!

今日は天気のいい暖かい日ですね。私は梅雨がくることを心配しています。

ここ何日間雨の日がつづきました。今日は青空が見れていい気分です。

梅雨が始まるまでは、まだ数週間があるようです。もうすぐ６月。

そして本当のムシムシした夏が始まります。アイルランドにはほとんど湿気がないので、日本に来たばかりのときは慣れませんでした。９年経った今も、まだ慣れませんエアコンの発明には感謝しかありません。

最初はリモコンのボタン操作がわかりませんでしたがエアコンが発明される前、人々はどのように夏を過ごしていたのでしょうか。

さて、みなさんスピーチの作文の提出はすんでいますかいくつか面白い作文を見つけましたよ。

ここから我々が作文を翻訳をしていきます。スピーチホームワークは７月の中旬ぐらいのスタートを予定しています。皆さん、楽しみですか？緊張しますか？たぶん両方ですね。母国語であっても人の前で話すことは緊張しますよね。ではそれを外国語でやってみてください。もっと緊張します。でも皆さんはその恐れに勇敢に立ち向かうことで強くなれます。今年のスピーチも一緒にがんばっていきましょう
