“デイライトセービングタイム”とは？

Hello everyone,

It feels unusually cool for March. I wonder if this climate will affect the timing of the cherry blossom here in Fuji. It is forecast to begin blooming at the end of March, and reach full bloom in the first week of April. Cooler weather could mean it blooms later. I’m looking forward to “hanami” this year. It’s always such a beautiful sight.

Last weekend there were Saint Patrick’s Day parades all over Japan. It looks like the parade in Tokyo was lots of fun. I’ll try to make it to one of the parades here in Japan someday. It’s too bad there isn’t one in Fuji. But there aren’t enough Irish people!

Did you have a day off yesterday? It was a public holiday known as “vernal equinox day”. This day is dedicated to the admiration of nature. The equinox means that we are exactly half way between the shortest and longest days in winter and summer. So there should be 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. At this time of the year in Ireland, and other participating countries, the clocks are put forward by one hour. This is called “daylight saving time”. So at midnight this weekend it will become 1A.M. It makes the evenings last longer and the mornings a little darker. During the autumn equinox six months later, the clocks are set back one hour. It can be a bit confusing for people if they forget when to change the time. Sometimes they arrive at places one hour early or late! Thankfully we don’t have to worry about that here in Japan.

みなさんこんにちは。今日は3月にしては寒い日となりました。この寒さが富士の桜の開花に影響するのか心配です。予報では3月末に開花が始まり、4月の最初の週に満開になるといいます。寒さは桜の開花を遅くします。私は花見がとっても楽しみなので、早く綺麗に咲いてくれ、あの美しい景色を楽しみたいものです

先週末は日本の各地でもセントパトリックスデーが行われました。中でも東京で開かれたパレードはとっても面白かったようです。私もいつかそのようなパレードをしてみたいです。富士で開催されていないのはとっても残念です。それに伴う数のアイルランド人がいないので仕方ないですが

昨日は皆さんお休みでしたか？”春分の日”でお休みでしたね。自然に対して賞賛する為に制定されました。そして昼と夜の長さがほとんど同じとなる日でもあります。この時期、アイルランドでや他のいくつかの国々では、時計の時間を1時間早めます。これを”デイライトセービングタイム”と呼びますなので今週末には深夜12時になったと同時に時刻は深夜1時になります。そうすることにより、夜が長くなるのです。6ヶ月後の秋分の日になると、進めた1時間を元に戻します。中には時間を操作するのを忘れ、混乱してしまう人達もいるかもしれません
