How is your week? Many of our students are starting back at school again after the summer holidays. I hope you enjoyed the break and managed to do all your summer homework.

We have started our speech homework and we’re beginning to plan our annual speech contest, which is in November. There’s over two months to go, but we have already started practicing the songs our youngest students (in kindergarten classes and 1st year PLS students) will perform. There are three songs. The first is a marching chant. We have changed the lyrics to be about English. The second is the well known children’s song, ‘Old McDonald Had a Farm’. The last song is the 70’s disco classic, YMCA, with it’s iconic dance.

Even though we have more than two months, opportunities for rehearsal are limited, especially compared to the time a kindergarten can spend on their 発表会　or school shows. Our lessons are primarily for teaching English so we can only spend 5 to 10 minutes in the weekly class on the songs. To help that, for the first time this year, we have put together instruction videos for each song. They will show the songs, dances and lyrics, as performed by Alan and me. They will be available on Hario’s user page, the place where you can see lesson videos and order photos and so on. They will go online next week and the staff can show you how to access them. If your child will be taking part in this performance, please have a look and practice in your free time. We hope to put on a great show and appreciate your cooperation.
