Good luck to all of our students who are taking the Eiken test this weekend! They always work hard for the test and deserve to do well. As the saying goes “break a leg”. That means good luck. The phrase comes from an old superstition that wishing someone good luck will bring them bad luck. So instead of saying “good luck”, they ask you to do something that is unlucky. It’s quite confusing, but don’t feel insulted if someone asks you to break a leg! It’s important to learn as many English phrases and idioms as possible. They are found in the Eiken tests, and are an important part of everyday English. I encourage our students to look at our phrase of the week board whenever they can. Then they can learn a common phrase every week. Some of the idioms in our language can be quite difficult to understand, as they have no literal translation. “Raining cats and dogs” is a good example!
There are some birthdays coming up this week. Happy birthday to Kevin tomorrow! My daughter has her second birthday on Saturday. The time has really flown by and I can’t believe she’s almost two already.
