Hello everyone,

I’m writing just before our Autumn holidays next week. We have a week’s vacation. Most of you will have at least Monday off as it’s a national holiday (Respect for the Elderly Day). Hario English School is in its second week and I’m enjoying meeting the new students taking trial lessons.

 

The big news from last week is that Tokyo won the right to host the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Congratulations to Japan. I remember back to when London won the Olympics. The decision was made in 2005 and it was held last year. I think it had a really postive effect on my home country. The fact the London Olympics ran smoothly and were a big success (especially the opening ceremony) boosted the UK’s profile around the world. It cost a lot of money but I think it was a very good thing for my home country. It was a shame I couldn’t go to see it because I was here in Japan. Anyway, I hope the 2020 Olympics can be a big boost for Japan and Tokyo. I hope they spend the money wisely and I hope I can go to see some events in 2020.

 

The Tokyo Olympic bid team gave speeches in English. Though the pronunciation and intonation wasn’t perfect, they presented themselves well and spoke with passion and were able to communicate their message effectively. For our students, the world will come to Tokyo in 2020. There will be many opportunities to use English.

HARIOイングリッシュスクール は１週間のお休みとなります。

 

みなさんも敬老の日などで３連休ですね。

 

HARIOイングリッシュスクールは２週目を迎えました。

キャンペーンなどに参加する新しい生徒の皆さんにあうのが楽しみです 😆 。

先週の大きなニュースといえば、２０２０年のオリンピック＆パラリンピックの開催地に

東京が選ばれたことです。

日本のみなさん、おめでとうございます 😛 。

私は、イギリスがオリンピック開催地に選ばれた日をおぼえています。

２００５年に決定され、ご存じのとおり、去年ロンドンオリンピックは終わりました。

オリンピック開催は、私の国にとてもプラスな影響を及ぼしました。

そしてオリンピックは順調に行われ、すばらしい評価をもらいました。（特に開会式です）

莫大な費用を費やしたと思いますが、オリンピック開催はイギリスにとってとてもプラスとなりました。

自国開催なのに、それを生でみれなかったのが残念です。（私は日本にいたので）

２０２０年のオリンピックも、日本と東京に大きなプラスをもたらすでしょう。

２０２０年オリンピックを生で見に行きたいです。

 

オリンピックのプレゼンテーションが英語で行われていましたね。

イントネーションや発音のできは別として、とてもパッションがあり力があり、観客に伝わるスピーチでした。

生徒たちにとっては、２０２０年に世界中の人が東京にくるわけですから、

英語を使う機会が将来たくさん生まれることでしょう。
