What is “Blue Monday”? 「Blue Monday」とは？

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re not affected too badly by “Blue Monday” next week. “Blue Monday” refers to the third Monday of January, and has been identified by scientists as the most depressing day of the year! They took into account the weather conditions, early darkness, time since Christmas and New Year celebrations and likelihood of failing New Year’s resolutions to calculate this day every year. I don’t believe in it personally, I feel as happy as ever. The mood is a lot better in Japan during winter due to the bright sunny days we’ve been having. In Ireland there is a dark blanket of cloud for what seems like months.
Things are always bright and cheerful here at Hario. We are getting ready to switch some of our 6th graders from PLS classes to Junior High classes next month. They’re all very excited about starting Junior High. It’s a big step in any student’s life and they will say goodbye to some old friends and make lots of new ones. They’re also excited to see which clubs they can join at their new school. I enjoy hearing stories about how their club activity went every week. Best of luck to all of our students in their new schools in April, from Kindergarten to High School.

みなさん、こんにちは。
これを読んでいる皆さんが、来週の「Blue Monday」の影響がないことを願います。
「Blue Monday」（憂鬱な月曜日）とは、１月の第三月曜日のことで、科学者の研究によると、一年で一番人が「憂鬱になる日」だそうです。
科学者の結果は、天候や日照時間が短くなったこと、さらにはクリスマスからお正月までの２週間ハッピーに過ごし疲れ果てていること、はてまた新年の誓いをすでに破ってしまいストレスになることなど様々な理由から、この日が算出されたようです。
私は、このブルーマンデーという日の説をしんじていません。
私は今までで一番ハッピーですし、冬でも晴れの日が続く日本にいる方が気持ちも上がります。
ここHARIOでもすべてのことが明るく、いつでも元気がでます。
２月からのクラス編成により、いくつかの６年生クラスは中学校クラスに進学します。かれらは中学生になることを楽しみにしているようです。４月からは、どの生徒さんにとってもこれまでのクラスメートとお別れをし、新しいクラスメートや先生、新しい学校にに通うことは大きな変化ですね。
部活も始まりますね。どのクラブに入るかもわくわくしているようです。私も毎週、中高生たちから、部活の様子を聞くのを楽んでいます。
４月から進学する皆さん、がんばってね。楽しんでね。
