Hello everyone,

Did you enjoy your Obon holiday? I had a relaxing week up in Nagano, seeing old friends and family. The weather is a little cooler up there too so I enjoyed that as well.

みなさんこんにちは。お盆休みはいかがでしたか？私は長野に行き、友達や家族と一緒によい時間を過ごしました。気候も涼しく、良かったです。

This week we’re starting to practice songs that will be performed at the speech contest by our youngest students. There are so many new and young students this year this year so we’re doing it a little differently. Usually everyone sings everything but this time we’re dividing up into smaller groups for each song so there’s room on the stage for everyone to have their moment at the front. Everyone will sing the Disney classic It’s a Small World After All with the older PLS 10th rank students taking the lead. Our youngest group will sing the well known children’s song I Can Sing a Rainbow. The middle age group will perfrom Ghostbusters from the movie of the same name. Finally, there is an audition piece; a first for us. The inescapable song of this year, Let It Go from the movie Frozen will be performed. Any students who’d like to try it can listen to the CD in their own time and practice. In about a month, we’ll audition to find as many students as we can to perform it at the speech contest. I often hear students sing it in the waiting room or during a transition in class so I’m sure many students will want to try it.

今週から、スピーチコンテストの発表タイムでの歌の練習が始まっています。

今年は幼児クラスの子供たちとと新しく入学した生徒さんたちがたくさんいるので、いつもと少し違うやり方をします。いつもは全員がすべての曲を歌うのですが、今回は全員が前で歌えるように、グループに分かれそれぞれの曲を歌います。

ディズニーの “It’s a Small World”は全員が歌う曲ですが、PLS10級の生徒さんたちにリードボーカルをしてもらいます。幼児クラスの一番年少さんのグループは、よく知られている童謡”I Can Sing a Rainbow”を歌います。真ん中のグループは映画ゴーストバスターズより”Ghostbusters”を歌います。そしてさらに希望者には、今年はずせない曲、映画アナと雪の女王より”Let It Go”を歌うチャンスがあります。

舞台で歌いたい生徒さんたちは是非CDを聞いて自宅で練習をしてください

私は、フロントで生徒さんたちが”Let It Go”を歌うのをよく聞きます。たくさんの生徒さんたちの応募を待っていますね。

Alan came up with the dance for Ghostbusters. It was the first time he’d ever tried something like that. Thanks for your hard work and going outside your comfort zone. In the past I too have choreographed dances for the speech contest. One of the nice things about working at Hario is that you can use your own ideas and try new things. In this job I’ve directed videos and the speech contest, ran our first camp this year and lots of other things. I hope students feel the same way about English. By knowing English you can express your ideas to people around the world, travel and work abroad, go out of your own comfort zone and generally broaden your horizons.

ゴーストバスターズの振り付けはアランが考えてくれました。彼にとっては初めての経験です。一生懸命考えてくれて、ありがとう。過去に私もスピーチコンテストでのダンスを考えたことがあります。

HARIO で働いていて素晴らしいことの一つは、このように自分自身で考えて新しいことに挑戦することができることです。これまで私も、スピーチコンテストのディレクターを務め、そして当日上映するビデオ制作をしたり、今年はキャンプの企画をし、ディレクターとなり実施したり、その他たくさんのことをやらせてもらいました。生徒さんたちも英語学習において同じように感じてほしいと思います。英語を知ることで、自分自身の考えを世界中の人々に発信したり、旅行をしたり、海外で働いたりと、自分の領域を超え、視野を広げることができます。
