During the festive season leading up to Christmas, a unique British theatrical tradition known as Pantomime, or “Panto,” takes center stage. These comedic renditions of classic stories and fairy tales have been a part of British theater since the 18th century, offering a distinct experience characterized by audience participation.

 

クリスマスまでの祝祭シーズンには、「パントマイム（Panto）」として知られるイギリス独特の演劇の伝統が舞台が人気があります。この演劇は古典的な物語やおとぎ話をコミカルに演じます18世紀以来、英国では代表的な演劇で、観客参加型の独特の体験ができるんですよ～。

 

 

In contrast to conventional theater, Panto encourages interaction between the audience and the performers. Spectators actively engage by booing villains, cheering heroes, and even shouting warnings like the iconic “It’s behind you!” These elements create an immersive and entertaining atmosphere.

従来の演劇とは対照的で、パントでは観客とパフォーマーとの交流が奨励される。観客は、悪役にブーイングを浴びせたり、ヒーローに声援を送ったり、象徴的な “後ろにいるぞ！”のような警告を叫んだりして、積極的に参加する事が出来るんです

こうした要素が、没入感のある楽しい雰囲気を作り出しているんですね～

 

 

Key components of Pantomime include a generous dose of humor, the unconventional casting of a young man as the hero (played by a woman) and a “Dame” (an older woman played by a man). Notably, celebrities from television, music, or sports often take on these roles.

パントマイムの主な構成要素には、ユーモアがあり、（女性が演じる）若い男性を主人公にした型破りな配役、（男性が演じる）年配の女性「ダム」などがあります。特に、テレビ、音楽、スポーツ界の有名人がこれらの役を演じることが多いんです

 

 

While Panto is generally considered a family-friendly performance, it incorporates humor that appeals to adults, ensuring a delightful experience for audience members of all ages.

 

パントは一般的に家族向けの演目と考えられているが、大人も楽しめるユーモアが盛り込まれており、あらゆる年齢層の観客が楽しめるようになっていますよ～
