Have you ever gone “trick or treating”?

Hello everyone,

Today is “Sport’s Day”! It sounds like all of the schools will hold their annual sport’s event, but no! It’s actually a national holiday which commemorates the opening of the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, and exists to promote sports and an active lifestyle. It takes place on the second Monday of October, so it’s one of the “Happy Monday” holidays here. I think that’s a great idea, to give people a long weekend every now and then.

Now that it’s October, it’s time to get into the spirit of Halloween. I’ve already seen some Halloween themed decorations in places all over Fuji. I noticed that staff were already wearing little witch hats in one business! Of course, there are plenty of Halloween themed snacks and sweets in shops. I thought this was unnecessary in Japan, because kids don’t go “trick or treating” here. If we buy Halloween candy here in Japan, we just eat it ourselves. In Ireland, however, you should have lots of sweets ready, because kids in costumes will come knocking at your door for some. The general rule is that kids walk around their own neighborhood asking for candy. When I was young, there were about 50 houses in my neighborhood, so I ended up with a full bag of sweets every year. It took at least a week to eat it all! I wonder if the custom of trick or treat will ever begin in Japan? Halloween week at Hario begins on October 25th, so there is just over two weeks to go. Is your costume ready?

今日は「体育の日」！毎年恒例のスポーツ大会が各学校で開催されるような気がしますよね

でも実はそうではありません　1964年に東京で開催された夏季オリンピックの開幕を記念して、スポーツとアクティブなライフスタイルを推進するために制定された国民の日なのですね～。

決まった日にちの祝日ではなく、10月の第2月曜日の祝日ため、日本では「ハッピーマンデー」の祝日のひとつとなっていますね。私はたまには長い週末があってもいいじゃないかって思います。

さて10月に入り、そろそろハロウィーンの気分を味わう時期がやってきましたね！すでに富士のあちこちでハロウィーンをテーマにした飾り付けを見かけました

ある企業では、スタッフがすでに小さな魔女の帽子をかぶっていたんですもちろん、お店にはハロウィンをテーマにしたお菓子やスイーツがたくさんありました。日本では、子供たちは「トリック・オア・トリート（お菓子をくれなきゃいたずらするぞ）」をしないので、これは不要だと思いましたけどね…　日本でハロウィンのお菓子を買っても、自分たちで食べるだけになってしましますが、アイルランドでは、仮装した子供たちがお菓子を求めてドアをノックしてくるので、お菓子をたくさん用意しておく必要があるんです。子供たちは自分の家の近所を歩いてお菓子をねだるのが一般的です。私が幼い頃には、近所に50軒ほどの家があったので、毎年袋いっぱいのお菓子をもらったもんです。全部食べるのに少なくとも1週間はかかりましたけどね　日本でもトリック・オア・トリートの習慣が始まりますかね～　ハリオのハロウィンウィークは10月25日から始まるので、あと2週間あまり　皆さん仮装の準備はできていますか？楽しみにしていますね
