Have a spooky October!

Hello everyone,

It’s October already! And that means Halloween is just around the corner. We have some spooky decorations up here in Hario, so come on over and check it out. Don’t be too scared by all of the spiders on the ceiling! We have a very special week of classes during Halloween, from October 25th-31st. Get your costume ready and come enjoy the fun. Halloween decorations are already up in many businesses around the world. It feels like they begin earlier every year. I see jack-o-lanterns everywhere I look, all over Fuji now. It’s the same in Ireland too. It’s even bigger there, considering the custom began in Ireland hundreds of years ago.

As soon as Halloween finishes in Ireland, all of the stores begin their Christmas campaigns in November. When I was younger, I remember when Christmas was confined to December, and you wouldn’t see any decorations around the city. These days there are Christmas lights and trees all around Dublin from November. I think it’s too early to start the celebrations and that businesses are trying to get the “Christmas rush” of shoppers earlier. What do you think? Either way, I like having celebrations to look forward to throughout the year. At Hario, we like to teach our students about international celebrations. It’s a fun way to learn about other cultures and customs. What could be more fun than dressing up and scaring everyone! I hope you have an interesting costume idea. みなさん、こんにちは。

１０月に入りました。ということは、もうすぐハロウィンがやってくるということです。今週からHARIOは怖ーいディスプレイに変わりました。天井からたくさんのクモがつる下がっているけれど、怖がらないで！１０月２５日～３１日までハロウィンウィークとして、一週間のハロウィンパーティを予定しています。皆さん、この週はコスチュームを身に着けてきてくださいね。パーティをお楽しみに

HARIOだけでなく、富士市のいたるところで、ハロウィンのパンプキンをみます。アイルランドでも同じです。アイルランドのデコレーションの方が、より盛大ではありますが。アイルランドでこの習慣が始まったのは数百年前のことです。

アイルランドでハロウィンが終わるとすぐに、クリスマスのデコレーションが町を埋め尽くします。私が子供のころ、クリスマスの飾りは１２月から始まっていました。１１月は町になんのデコレーションもありませんでした。しかしこの頃は、ダブリンでは１１月からクリスマスの飾りやライトアップがされています。１１月からクリスマスの装飾は早いかもしれませんが、クリスマスの準備を早めにさせようというビジネス戦略でしょう。皆さんはどう思いますか。どちらにしても、一年を通して、お祝いごとがあるのは楽しみなことです。HARIOで、世界のお祭りごとを生徒の皆さんに教るのは楽しいことです。楽しく違う文化や習慣を学ぶことができます。そしてドレスアップして、皆を怖がらせるのはもっと楽しいです。皆さんはコスチュームをきめましたか。今月の終わりが楽しみです。
