Blue postboxes

Hey, I hope that everyone is doing okay.

Last week I didn’t get up to much, but I saw on the news that a number of postboxes in the UK have been painted blue in support of the NHS. Postboxes in the UK are very common and can be found on nearly every street. Anyway as a way of showing support to the NHS, a number of postboxes have been painted blue to thank the staff who are battling the Coronavirus pandemic. This is not the first time that postboxes have changed colour in the UK. If I remember corretly, they were also painted blue to celebrate the cricket in 2019 and a number of postboxes were painted gold to celebrate olympic athletes who won gold medals during the 2012 olympics. As well as being painted blue, the postboxes also have “Thank you NHS” written on the side in white paint. There are currently only five located across the UK. They can be found in Cardiff, London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast. The Royal Mail said that the postboxes were chosen to ensure the representation of “all four UK countries and to commemorate the Trafford General Hospital, which was the birthplace of the NHS.”

いかがお過ごしですか。先週見たニュースによると、UKでは、たくさんの郵便ボックスが医療従事者をサポートのため、感謝のために青に塗り替えられているそうです。UKで郵便ボックスの色が塗り替えられたのは、これが初めてではありません。２０１９年には、クリケットチームを祝して青色に、２０１２年には、オリンピックのゴールドメダリスト達を祝してゴールドに塗り替えられました。この医療従事者の感謝をこめた青色郵便ボックスには、ありがとうNHSという文字が白色で書かれてるものあります。現在、５つのそれらが存在し、UK全土に置かれています。Cardriff,London,Manchester, EdinburghそしてBelfastです。これら５つは、UKをまとめる４つの国々の代表として、またマンチェスターは、NHS発祥の地であることを祝して、選ばれました。
