Hello,

 

It`s that time of the year again, when people around the world dress up and give candy to anyone who says “Trick or treat!” Do you know where the word “Halloween” comes from? It was originally called “All-Hallows-Eve”, hallow is a very old English word for saint. This was the last evening of the year when someone could become a saint. This originated around the year 1556. It was also a festival to celebrate the pagan saints and the end of the harvest in Ireland and Scotland. The name was since shortened to “Hallows-Eve” and then “Halloween”. The reason people dressed up is because according to pagan tradition, this date is when we are closest to the spirit world. Spooky!

Here at Hario English School, we have encouraged all of over students to dress up this week, and we have not been disappointed. There have been some fastastic costumes so far, such as ultraman, princesses, a dinosaur, doraemon, and even Mount Fuji! The staff are also dressing up this week, look out for captain Jack Sparrow, a skeleton, a witch, a magician and a jack o`lantern!

世界中の人々がドレスアップして、Trick or Treatというとキャンディがもらえる・・・

そんな時がやってきました。

みなさんは、「ハロウィン」という言葉がどこからきたのかしっていますか？

ハロウィンは、「All-Hallows-Eve」と、元々は呼ばれていて、「hallow」は、聖人を表す

古英語です。人が聖人になることができる一年で一番最後の夜です。

これは、１５５６年ごろのことです。

スコットランドとアイルランドで、キリスト教の神と、その年の収穫を祝うためのお祭りでした。

そこから、Hallow-Eve となり、名前が短くなっていきHalloweenとなりました。

人々がドレスアップするのは、、キリスト教の伝統からきています。

この日が、霊に一番近づける日です。あぁ～怖い。

 

HARIOイングリッシュスクール では、今週は生徒たちがドレスアップしてくる週、ハロウィンウィーク

となっています。ここまで、本当に面白い、ファンタスティックな衣装ばかりです。

ウルトラマン、プリンセス、恐竜、ドラえもん、富士山などなど。

先生達もドレスアップをしています。キャプテン　ジャックスパロウ、骸骨、魔女、マジシャン、ジャックオーランタンなど。
