What a Wonderful Contest!

Hello everyone,

Did you enjoy the holiday last Wednesday? For many people, it wasn’t just labour thanksgiving day, it was the Hario Speech Contest 2022! We all had a great time and really enjoyed the show. The students put on a fantastic performance and gave it their all. The speeches were of a very high quality in all three categories. First we had the rising star category, many of who were performing their first speech. It must have been nerve-wracking for them to be on the big stage for the first time, but they all handled it well. After that we had the 10th rank activity. Our youngest students sang and danced to two English songs. I’m always impressed with their ability in this activity. I have been to kindergarten song events in the past. When the students sing a song, they stand still while they are singing. After that they have a dance performance where they only dance, without singing. At our Speech Contest, however, our 10th rank activity students sing and dance together, all in English. It’s a very impressive thing to do at such a young age. Well done, everyone! After that, we had the final two speech categories. I’m always amazed by how far the quality has come in the weeks leading up to the contest. There were excellent performances all round. The judges found it difficult to choose winners because they were all so good. So well done to everyone for all of their hard work and thanks to the parents for supporting their child throughout. As a parent, I know how difficult it can be to motivate your child to make an effort.

After the contest it was good to see Japan beat Germany in their opening world cup match. It’s too bad they lost to Costa Rica yesterday. They have to play well against Spain on Friday to have any chance to qualify for the next round. Good luck Japan!

皆さん、こんにちは！アランフィリップスです。

先週の水曜日の勤労感謝の日は楽しめましたか？たくさんの人々にとって、その日は勤労感謝の日ではなく、ハリオの2022年度のスピーチコンテストでした‼　素晴らしいコンテストでしたよ～。生徒たちは全力を尽くしてくれました。スピーチは、すべての部門において非常に質の高いものでした。まず、ライジングスターの部門ですが、多くの方が初舞台で、大舞台に立ったので緊張したでしょうけど、生徒たちは本当によく頑張りました。　その後、10級のパフォーマンスがあり、生徒が2曲の英語の歌に合わせて歌い、踊りました。この活動では、いつも彼らの能力に感心させられます。過去に幼稚園の歌のイベントに参加したことがありますが、歌を歌うときは、動きません。逆にその後、歌を歌わずにダンスだけを披露するダンスパフォーマンスがあります。私たちのスピーチコンテストでは、１０級の子供たちが、すべて英語で歌いながら踊ります。あんなに小さいのに、とても素晴らしいことだと思います。皆さん、よく頑張りましたね！その後、最後の2つのスピーチ部門がありました。いつも思うのですが、コンテストまでの最後の数週間で、スピーチのクオリティが上がることにいつも驚かされます。
