Recently at Hario, we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, the patron Saint of Ireland. But in England, we have our own patron Saint, Saint George. We celebrate his day this month, on the 23^rd of April.

最近ハリオでは、アイルランドの守り神であるセントパトリックさんを祝う日セントパトリックデイをお祝いしました

イングランドでは、セントジョージという守り神がいます

今月23日が彼をお祝いする日なんですよ

But George isn’t even from England and never even came to England in his lifetime. He was born in what we know as Turkey today.

しかし、ジョージは彼が生きている間に実は、一度もイングランドを訪れたことがありません

彼は現在のトルコで生まれました。

His story goes that he fought and defeated a dragon with a taste for humans in Silene (modern-day Libya). But this story was created 500 years after his death and has come to symbolise the fight between good and evil. Many legends say he was a knight but was more likely part of the Roman army.

彼のストーリーは、ドラゴンと闘って打ち負かす話です

この話は彼が死んでから500年後に作り出され、善と悪の間の戦いの象徴として扱われるようになりました

沢山の伝説では、彼は古代ローマの騎士だったと伝えられています。

On the day many people fly the English flag and are supposed to wear blue (which was supposedly George’s favourite colour) or a red rose to celebrate the day.

お祝いの日には、たくさんの人が空にイギリス国旗を掲げ、ジョージのお気に入りカラーだったと言われている青い服を着て赤い薔薇でお祝いをします
