Hello everyone,

How are you doing? I can’t remember the last day without rain. I’m running out of clothes. I hope it becomes sunny again soon so I can dry my clothes in the sun. Congratulations to the USA for winning the Women’s World Cup. It was a great tournament. I’m also enjoying welcoming parents into classes for parents’day classes.

Every year around this time we give PLS students speech homework. We received the students’ Japanese speeches a couple of months ago. Then we translated them, adjusted the level so it’s appropriate to the student’s ability, made a vocabulary list, recorded a CD with Alan or I reading the speech and made a help sheet. Each speech was individually made and is unique to that student. They took a lot of time to make and a lot of care. It’s a chance for our students to give their opinion and talk about something that’s important to them. It’s also a chance for them to learn new vocabulary, practice public speaking skills and to practice a skill every week, improve and get better and get more confidence. Good luck everyone. Try your best. A few months later, a select few will perform their speeches at our annual speech contest. It starts from next Monday.

いかがお過ごしですか。
最後に晴れた日が思い出せないほど、雨が続いています。
きる服もなくなりそうです。早く晴れの日がきてほしいです。そして洗濯をしたい。
女子サッカーワールドカップ。優勝おめでとう、USA!!!
すばらしいトーナメントでした。
そしてHARIOでは引き続き「授業参観」が行われています。保護者の皆さんの多くに
クラスをみていただいたいです。是非、ご参加ください。

毎年HARIOではこの時期にPLSクラスの生徒達（PLS８級以上）にスピーチのホームワークだ
出されます。数か月前に、生徒の皆さんから作文をもらい、それらを我々が訳し、
それぞれ個々のレベルにあうように調節をし、英語のスピーチができあがります。
スピーチの中にでてくる難しいと思われる単語のリストもそれぞれ作成します。
そしてそれらのスピーチと単語リストをアランと私が録音をし、CDにします。
作成までには非常に手間と時間がかかります。
そして、すべてのスピーチはオリジナルであり、世の中に１つしかないスピーチCDとなります。
このスピーチは、自分の意見や自分の好きなことなどを人前で発表する機会となります。
さらに新しい英語を覚え、スピーチをする技術を学ぶことができます。
毎週練習することで、スピーチがうまくなり、自信をつけることができます。
生徒の皆さん、がんばってください。
ベストをつくしてください。
数か月後、上位約３４名を、当校が毎年開催している「スピーチコンテスト」に選出いたします。いよいよ来週の月曜日から、スピーチホームワークがスタートです。
