Hi everyone,

How are you doing? Seasonal flu is going round so be careful and remember to wash you hands a lot. Many of our students are busy preparing for upcoming Eiken tests and entrance exams for junior high schools and high schools. Good luck to everyone! We’re also getting ready for the annual timetable change and the upcoming spring campaign. Any interested potential student can try 4 free lessons during February and March. I hope we see a lot of new faces.

Earlier this week, I went to Shizuoka Immigration Bureau for the last time. I applied for and got permanent residence in Japan, so I no longer have to update my visa. I’m very happy to call this place my home. I wouldn’t have thought when I first arrived in Nagano, 9 years ago on a one-year contract with another English school that I would end up married and settled here all these years later. At that time, it was a risk and a leap into the unknown for me but it worked very well. I would encourage everyone to take thier own leaps into the unknown. You only live once so make the most of it.

This is me when I first came to Japan, 9 years ago, at the Daibutsu in Kamakura. Do I look different?

みなさんこんにちは、いかがお過ごしですか？インフルエンザが流行っているので、十分お気をつけて、手洗いを忘れないようにしてくだいね。ハリオのたくさんの生徒さんたちが、英検や中学・高校受験の準備で大忙しです。みんな、頑張ってね！またハリオは只今、年に1度のクラス編成と春のキャンペーンの準備中です。興味のある生徒さんたちは、2月から3月まで4回の無料体験レッスンが受けられます。新しい生徒さん達にお会いできるのことを楽しみにしています。

今週のはじめ、静岡の入国管理局へ行ってきました。日本での永住権を得ることができ、もうビザを更新する必要がなくなりました。この地を「私のホーム」と呼ぶことができることが、とても嬉しいです。9年前に他の英語学校で1年間の契約をして長野に到着したときには、日本で結婚し何年も住むことになるなんて思いませんでした。その時はリスクをとって未知の世界へ飛び込みましたが、良い方向に進みました。未知の世界へ挑戦するすべてのみなさんを応援します。人生1度きりですから、精いっぱいやりましょう
