Nagaizumi Road Race　長泉ロードレース

Hello everyone,

Last week I took part in the Nagaizumi Road Race near Mishima, running 10km. I used to run lots and do marathons but I hadn’t raced for two years so I thought I’d test myself and see whether I’m slowing down in my thirties. It was a fun day. The weather was a little cloudy so you couldn’t see Mt Fuji but otherwise the view was very nice. I ran past the Bernard Buffet Museum and up a forest road full of massive, millionaire houses with nice, modern designs. If I ever become a millionaire I might buy myself one of those houses. The course was uphill for the first 5km and then you turn around and run downhill the last 5km. The first half was tough but I managed to keep running all the way to the top. My face was really red. The steward at the halfway checkpoint told me I was in 77th place. On the way down I managed to overtake 10 people (maybe because I have long legs) and I finished in 67th position (out of 270). I was quite happy with the result and got a personal best time for 10km. I’m glad I’m still in OK shape even in my thirties. I think I’ll work my way up to running a full marathon sometime next year. ‘There’s life in the old dog yet’ is a phrase you can use when an older person manages to compete with younger people. I hope it applies to me (though I’m only a little old as yet).

先週私は長泉ロードレースに参加し、10kmを走りました。以前はよくたくさん走ったり、マラソンに出たりしていましたが、今回は2年ぶりの大会でした。30代になってからどうか、と自分自身を試してきました。曇っており、富士山を見ることはできませんでしたが、それ以外の素敵な景色を見ることができ、楽しい一日でした。ベルナールビュッフェ美術館を通過し、現代風の素敵な豪邸のたくさんある林道を通りました。もし大富豪になったら、私もその中のひとつの家を買うかもしれません。

最初の5kmは上り坂で、折り返してから残りの5kmは下り坂のコースでした。顔が真っ赤になってしまいました。中間地点の係員の方が、私は77番目だと教えてくれました。下り坂でなんとか10人を追い越すことができ、270人のうち、67番でゴールすることができました。10kmでの自己最高記録を出すことができたので、この結果にとても満足しています。30代になってもまだまだいけることがわかりました来年はフルマラソンに出場するためにまた頑張りたいと思います。
