Speech Contest Preparations スピーチの準備

Hello everyone,
How are you doing? Next week is Halloween week. Is your costume ready? Please check back next week to see some photos!
Earlier this week, Alan, Sachiyo, and I chose the finalists for this year’s speech contest. It was a difficult decision as always. We can only choose the best 35 or so students to perform their speeches on the stage. We reviewed videos of everyone and after more than an hour we had our list. Some students who haven’t been chosen will be disappointed, but they should remember the speech activity is mainly a homework activity, an opportunity to learn English. If you did the speech homework, you learnt lots of new English and practiced presentation skills, pronunciation, new vocabulary and so on. The speech contest is a bonus at the end of the process. The next few weeks will be busy with Halloween, parent’s day and the speech contest. It’s always a fun time of year and I hope we can put on a good show again.

いかがお過ごしですか？来週はハロウィンウィークです。仮装の準備はできましたか？

今週のはじめ、アランとさちよと私はスピーチコンテストの最終選抜メンバーを決める審査をしました。毎年そうですが、とても難しい選択でした。ステージでスピーチができるのは、上位ほんの35名程です。生徒さん全員のビデオを見て、何時間もかけリストをあげました。選ばれなかった何人かの生徒さんたちはがっかりするでしょうが、スピーチの主な目的はホームワークとしてのしてのものであり、英語を学ぶ機会を得るためのものだということを思い出してください。スピーチホームワークをきちんとやったなら、新出の単語をたくさん学んだでしょうし、さらにプレゼンや発音などもたくさん練習できたはずです。スピーチコンテストはホームワークの最後のおまけのごほうびです。ここから数週間は、ハロウィン、授業参観、スピーチコンテストの準備と忙しくなります。この時期は毎年面白いです。
