Halloween is around the corner　ハロウィンはもうすぐ

Hello everyone,

Halloween is coming next week! So it’s time to get your costume ready. I hope to be terrified by our student’s creepy costumes this year, and in turn I promise to scare everyone myself. I feel that it’s my duty seeing as Halloween originated in Ireland about 400 years ago. It was a Pagan festival that celebrated the end of Summer, and the spirits of the dead were said to be haunting the World. Hence why people wear spooky costumes every year. “Trick or treating”, the custom of going from door to door and receiving sweets from neighbors, dates back to around 1920. Children would promise to play a “trick” on their neighbor unless they were given a “treat”. If you come to Hario next week, try it, you can see from to photo we have some sweets ready!

みなさんこんにちは。

ハロウィンが来週に迫ってきました。コスチュームの準備はできましたか？今年もたくさんの生徒さん達の衣装に脅かされるのを楽しみにしていると同時に、私もみなさんを怖がらせます。
もともと400年前のアイルランドで生まれたハロウィンですので、アイルランド出身の私としては、ハロウィンをどことなく義務のように感じてしまうのです。
以前はペイガン・フェスティバルという夏の終わりを祝うもので、その頃は死者の魂が世界を呪うとされていました。その為、人々は毎年怖い衣装を着たのです。
1920年頃になると、”trick or treating”「お菓子をくれないといたずらするよ」という近所の家をまわりお菓子を受け取るという習慣が始まりました。そして子供たちは「お菓子」を貰えないときまって「いたずら」をしました。
みなさん来週Harioに来る時は”trick or treat”やってみてください。素敵な”treat”用意してあります。コスチュームもはりきって！！
