Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well after yet another typhoon hit Japan this week. It arrived in Fuji on Monday evening and I could hear it blowing through the night. It left behind some unseasonably hot weather yesterday, it felt like summer again! It`s back to mid-October weather now, however, and I can feel the cold slowly but surely setting in. This week at Hario we are making preparations for next month’s speech contest by filming all of the students performing their speeches. This will help us to decide who will be going to the contest. It would take too long if every student performed at the contest itself. The standard is very high this year so every student should be proud of the effort that they have put in to their speeches. The important thing is being able to speak about something that interests you, and all of our students have achieved that. I understand how difficult it is to speak in another language in front of people, and I`m really proud of how well they`re doing.

Halloween is approaching, as you may have seen the spooky decor around Hario. I hope you have your costume ready for the week starting October 27th. We always have some fantastic costumes for Halloween and I know we won`t be disappointed this year!

みなさんこんにちは。

先日の台風は大丈夫でしたか？月曜の夕方に富士市の上空を通り、夜にはずっと風の音が聞こえていました。台風が過ぎ去り、昨日は季節はずれの暑い日で、夏のようでしたね。今日はもう１０月の中旬に戻ったような気候です。だんだん寒くなってきていますね。今週HARIO ではスピーチの発表の準備で、生徒さん全員のスピーチを録画しています。みなさんとてもよく練習してくれていて、全体のレベルがとても高いです。ですのでみなさん、練習をがんばってきたことに自信をもってくださいね。大切なことは、自分の好きなことについて話すことができるようになることです。人前で母語でない言葉を話すことはとても難しいということを私もわかっているので、みなさんがしていることを本当に誇りに思います。
