Hello everyone,

We had the first Hario English School Christmas party on Sunday, and the smiles all round told us that a great time was had by all. Over 50 sudents and some of their siblings and parents showed up, making it one of the biggest parties we`ve ever had here. It was a good opportunity to show everyone the differences between christmas in Europe and Japan, so Kevin and I gave short presentation. There were some christmas foods which I talked about, such as mince pies, that nobody had tried yet, so I hope they look out for them and try them someday. We also had many fun games and a craft activity where the children got to make their own pine cone reindeer, I left the party for a few minutes, and when I came back I heard that Santa had come while I was out! He had a big sack of gifts for all the children, they were delighted to see him. Unfortunately, I came back to the party about 10 minutes after Santa had left, so I didn`t get to see him. Maybe next year…

Monday marked my first anniversary of being in Japan. I`ve had a fantastic year here and I can`t wait to see what next year brings. You can see some of the biggest culture shocks for me in my previous blogs during the year. I`m going on a 10 day holiday to Ireland this Saturday. I have to get up at 2:30am on Saturday morning to get my bus to Narita. I`m terrible at sleeping on buses or airplanes so I`m going to be a very tired passenger during the 12 hour flight to London, plus another 1 hour flight to Dublin. That said, I`m so excited about seeing my friends and family again, I`m going to feel awake again when I see them.

This is my final blog of 2013, it`s been an amazing year and a real adventure. Here`s to 2014 may it bring you luck and happiness. Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

みなさん、こんにちは。

先週の日曜日はHARIOイングリッシュスクール になっての初めてのクリスマスパーティでした。

５０人を超える参加者と、そのご兄弟やご父兄も参加し、とても賑やかなパーティになりました。

ヨーロッパと日本のクリスマスの違いを皆さんに伝えるのによい機会だったので、

私とケビンはそれらについて短いプレゼンテーションをしました。

私はクリスマスの食べ物についてプレゼンをしました。たとえば、「ひきにくパイ」があります。

誰も知らなかったようです。いつか生徒の皆さんが「ひきにくパイ」と出会えるといいですね。

また会では、たくさんの面白いゲームをし、まつぼっくりを使ってトナカイを作る工作もしました。

私は、会の途中で予定があったので出ていました。

でも私がいない間にパーティにサンタクロースが来ていたようです。

生徒のみなさんに、大きな袋のプレゼントをあげていたようです。生徒達がとても喜んでいたとのこと。

残念ながら、サンタが去った１０分後に渡しは戻ってきたようで、私はサンタに会えませんでした。

たぶん、来年はあえると思います。

月曜日の１２月１４日は、私が日本にきた記念日でした。私はここで、素晴らしい１年を過ごすことができ、来年がとても楽しみでもあります。今年、私が受けたカルチャーショックについては、これまでのプログでも紹介してきました。私は、土曜日から１０日間、アイルランドに里帰りをします。土曜日は、朝の２時半のおきて、成田いきのバスにのります。バスや飛行機は寝不足だと思います。ロンドンから１２時間の飛行機、プラスそこからダブリンまで１時間。私が飛行機の中で一番つかれた乗客になるでしょう。

それでも、私は友人や家族にまた会えるのを楽しみにしています。きっと彼らにあったら疲れも眠気もふっとぶと思います。このブログが２０１３年の私の最後のプログになります。とても素晴らしい１年で、たくさんの冒険がありました。

２０１４年が皆さんに幸運と幸せをもたらしますように。メリークリスマス、そしてよい新年をお迎えください。
