Hi Everyone,
  How are you doing? Right now I’m looking at the speech contest video and putting the DVD together. It should be available in a couple of weeks and would make a great Christmas present! I don’t really like watching myself on video so I don’t like watching me being the host and interviewer. However, I’m really amazed at how well the students spoke. I really think the quality this year was the best I’ve seen. In preparation for the speeches, Alan and I gave our students lots of advice about pronunciation, intonation and the like. On the stage, many students got nervous and forgot this advice and went back to some bad habits they have. Of course, I can understand this. However, as they gain in experience and confidence I hope they can relax more and really pay attention to the little things they can do to fine tune their performance.
 Anyway, thanks for reading. I’m taking a Japanese test this Sunday. I guess I feel the same as our students do before their Eiken exams. Have a good weekend.

ご機嫌いかがですか。私は今、スピーチコンテストのDVDの作成に取りかかっています。
あと数週間で販売できるかと思います。よいクリスマスプレゼントになりますね。
私自身の画像を見るのはすきではないので、ビデオを作りながら、自分がインタビュアーや司会をしている姿をみるのが心地よくありません。
でも録画されたビデオをみて、生徒達のスピーチがどれだけ素晴らしかったかを再確認できて驚いています。やはり、今年のスピーチコンテストのレベルはこれまでで一番だったと思います。スピーチの練習では、私やアランは生徒達に発音やイントネーションなどのたくさんのアドバイスをしました。ステージでは、生徒達の中には緊張をしてそのアドバイスを忘れてしまって、もとの発音やイントネーションに戻っている子もいました。
生徒の気持ちもわかりますが、彼らが経験を積み、自信をもてば、もっとリラックスでき、注意を払いながらスピーチができるのだと思います。

日曜日は、「日本語検定１級」の試験を受けます。英検を受ける前の生徒達と同じ気持ちです。
