If you read this blog you probably know tomorrow is our annual speech contest and the biggest event in our calendar. Are you coming? Are you ready? We’re looking forward to it and hope you enjoy the show.

みなさん、こんにちは。

このブログをご覧の皆さんは、明日がHARIOの一大イベントであるスピーチコンテストであることはご存じかもしれません。

コンテストの準備はいいですか。私達も楽しみです。また来場した皆さんがコンテストを楽しんでいただけると嬉しいです。

Our annual speech contest is a great chance for us to showcase our school, our students and their English. There will be 40 speakers in 4 categories competing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes (the category winners also get a Tokyo Disney Resort pass as a prize). . They were chosen from more than 100 students doing speech homework and the quality this year is really high. Our youngest students will perform 3 songs for you all. They sang loudly and did really well. I hope they can do that on the stage in front of 300 people. We’ve been practicing since the summer and had our final rehearsal last Saturday. There is also a special speech. One of my junior high school students took part in the Fuji City Junior High School speech contest, won the city event and qualified for the regional event. It’s a really interesting and unique speech about food science. I helped to translate it and learned a lot from that process. There’s a fun introduction movie based on this year’s theme, the Rio Olympics and Paralympics. Also, there’s a short Olympic quiz to break up the speeches. The whole thing has been months in preparation and we can’t wait to start.

このHARIOスピーチコンテストは、HARIOやHARIOの生徒達、彼らの英語力を紹介する年で一番大きなイベントです。コンテスト出場者は４０名で、それぞれレベル（PLSランク）により４カテゴリーに別れています。各カテゴリーの１位～３位にはトロフィーと賞状が授与されます。この４０名は、１２０名の生徒の中から選ばれた優れたスピーチで、全体的なレベルも今年は非常に高いです。スピーチ発表とは別に、幼児クラスやPLS１０＆９級の生徒達による歌のダンスの発表もあります。先週の土曜日にはリハーサルが行われました。

またスペシャルスピーチとして富士市のスピーチコンテストに参加し準優勝をした中学３年生のスピーチも披露されます。彼のスピーチはとてもユニークで面白いです。内容は、食品添加物についてです。私は彼のスピーチの英語訳を手伝いましたが、「ふーん、なるほど」と教えられることが多くありました。また今年のオープニングムービも面白いです。今年のスピーチコンテストのテーマは「（リオ）オリンピック」です。それに関連したムービーに仕上がっていますし、会の合間にはオリンピッククイズも予定しています。数カ月にもわたり、このスピーチコンテストの準備をしてきました。とても楽しみです。
