Did you have a nice Golden Week? For me, Golden Week signals the change from spring into summer. I know it isn’t really summer yet, but it’s hot enough for me already! The cherry blossoms have all fallen now and the hot summer weather is just around the corner. I asked many of our students what they will be getting up to on the holiday. Many of them said they would stay home and study or play games/watch youtube. There weren’t many that would go on trips like a few years ago. Some of our students said they would have a barbeque, and they do that every Golden Week. I was wondering what other family traditions people have on national holidays. For example, my family here in Japan go do the family grave every Obon week, we take a small trip for my daughter’s birthday, and go to a shrine for the New Year. In Ireland my parents give me chocolate eggs every easter and we eat turkey on Christmas Day. I think barbeques on Golden Week are a great idea because the weather is just right. It’s not too cold or hot yet, it’s nice and warm during the day right now so we should make the most of this weather. The rainy season is coming next month and after that it’s the hottest time of the year. So enjoy the great outdoors during May.

ゴールデンウィークはいかがでしたか

私にとってゴールデンウィークは、春から夏にかわる時です。

まだ夏ではありませんが、私にとっては十分もう暑いです。

さくらは散り、夏がもうすぐやってくる。

生徒達に休み中に何をするか聞くと、ほとんどが家にいる又はゲームやユーチューブを見ると答えていました。

中にはバーベキューをするというのもありました。

休みの間に家族でする行事はなんだろうと考えました。

例えば、私の日本での家族はお盆はお墓参りにいきます。娘の誕生日の時には旅行をし、年始は神社にいきます。

アイルランドの家族は、イースターにはチョコレートを送ってくれます。クリスマスにはターキーをたべます。

ゴールデンウィークにバーベキューをするのはいいアイディアと思います。天気がいいですから。

暑すぎず寒すぎず、日中は暖いです。

来月は梅雨の季節です。そしてその後、一年で一番暑い月がきます。５月の間にアウトドアを楽しみましょう。
