Hello everyone,

This is our last week before the Golden Week holiday. What shall our students do during the vacation? Here’s an idea! They can write a speech for the next Hario Speech contest. That’s right! This week we are handing out the compostion sheets to all of our students who are eligible for the speech homework. They have about three weeks to write it, and it’s a great way to make use of your time in the Golden week holiday. Our students should try and come up with an interesting topic to talk about. Remember, it can be about anything at all! If the student is enthusiastic about the topic, then it will shine through in their speech. Good luck to all of you on step one of the speech contest!

What else will you do during Golden week? There are three public holidays in a row, so many people who live in big cities, such as Tokyo, take a trip back to their hometown. My wife’s siblings live in Yokohama, and they usually come back to our town during the holiday. The mass migration makes the shinkansens extremely busy at this time of the year. The first holiday is the memorial constitution day, which honors the founding of Japan’s constitution after the second world war. This is followed by “Green Day”. No, not the American band! It’s a day which honors Japan’s beautiful nature. When we put up green decorations for Saint Patrick’s Day in March, our students often call it “Green Day”. Finally, on May 5th, we have Children’s Day. This mainly focuses on boys, because there is a girls’ day on March 3rd, the Hina Festival. Families with boys often put up big carp flags outside their homes to wish for their boys to grow up and become big and strong.

みなさん、こんにちは

ゴールデンウィークまで残すところ数日となりましたね！！！

 

生徒たちは休みの期間中に何をするべきでしょうか？

ここにいいアイデアがあります

 

今年のスピーチコンテストで使うスピーチの原稿を作成すればいいんです

そうですよ！今週HARIOではスピーチホームワークに取り組む生徒たちに原稿用紙をお渡ししていますもんね

 

ゴールデンウィーク期間中を有意義に過ごすためにも、是非取り組んでほしいものですね

HARIOの生徒たちには何か面白いトピックを思いついてもらいたです。

 

自分が興味あるトピックであればなんでもいいんですよ

興味のあるものならそれがどんなテーマでも、「光り輝くような」スピーチになるはずです

 

内容を日本語で考えることが、スピーチコンテストの最初のステップになりますので、頑張って下さいね！！

 

みなさんは、他にはどんなGWの予定がありますかね？？

三日間も連続で祝日があるので、東京のような大都市に住んでいる人たちは実家に帰省するんでしょうか

 

私の妻の兄弟は横浜に住んでいて、休みになると富士に帰ってきます

こういう時は大体新幹線がものすごく込み合うんですよね

 

最初の祝日は「憲法記念日」です。第二次世界大戦後に、日本が憲法を策定したことをお祝いする日です。

 

二つ目は、「みどりの日」です。アメリカのミュージックバンドのことではありませんよ

日本が誇る素晴らしい自然をお祝いする日です。

少し前にHARIOでセントパトリックをお祝いした際には、緑の装飾をたくさん行ったのですが、

生徒たちは「みどりの日だ！！」と言っていたのを思い出しました

 

それに続いて最後には、我らが大好きな「こどもの日」ですね

主には男の子をお祝いする日らしいのですが、というのも3月3日は女の子のための「おひな祭り」がありますもんね

鯉のぼりを庭に出して、子供の健康を成長を祈ります

何をするにしても最高のゴールデンウィークが訪れますように
