Hello everyone,

I hope you had a good rest last Thursday for Culture Day. There are two national holidays in Japan every November, Culture Day on the 3rd and Labour Day on the 23rd. We are taking advantage of the Labour Day holiday by holding our speech contest that day. It’s the perfect time to hold the contest when the families will be free to attend. Now that it’s November, the cold weather is slowly creeping in. We have switched to double blankets on the bed, and have an electric blanket under the kotatsu to warm up in the evening. Compared with many other countries it never gets too cold here in Fuji. We don’t have to worry about snow, but we still need to wrap up in warm clothes in the winter. We have some of the mildest weather in Japan here in Fuji. It doesn’t get too hot or cold here most of the time.

Speaking of hot places, do you know where the soccer world cup in going to take place this month? It’s in the desert of Qatar! They had to move the world cup to November because the summer temperatures go over 40 degrees there! It’s a strange place to hold a world cup. Either way I’m looking forward to it. It’s always an exciting event, and I hope Japan do well this year. However, they are in the “group of death” (a phrase meaning a very hard group), with Spain and Germany. I’ll be rooting for Japan because Ireland didn’t qualify. Europe has about 55 countries trying to get a few places in the world cup, so Ireland didn’t make it.  Oh well, better luck next time. Are you excited about the world cup?

みなさんこんにちは、アラン・フィリップスです。

 

先日は文化の日でしたが、ゆっくり過ごせましたか？

 

毎年11月には、3日の文化の日と23日の勤労感謝の日の二回も祝日がありますよね

 

私たちHARIOでは、この祝日を生徒たちが有意義に過ごしてもらえるように、

スピーチコンテストを開催しています。

 

ご家族の皆様もお休みの方が多い日だと思うので、ご参加しやすいことと思います。

 

すでに11月に入って、肌寒い気温の日が多くなってきましたね

私の家では、温かいブランケットを引っ張り出してきたのと、リビング用に温かいこたつを用意しました！！

 

他の国々と比べると、富士はそれほど寒い街ではありません。

積雪の心配をする必要もなければ、一年を通して安定した気温のためそれほど、

寒暖差を感じることもありませんよね。

 

「あつい」とえば、もうすぐワールドカップが始まりますね！激あつですね

今回のサッカーワールドカップはどこで開催されるかご存じでしょうか？

 

なんと！！カタールの砂漠地帯で開催されます！！！

現地の夏の気温は40度以上になるため、11月の比較的涼しい季節に開催をすることになったんですね！

 

なんともワールドカップを開催する場所としてはおかしな場所だと個人的には思っております。

まぁとはいっても、私は今回のワールドカップをとても楽しみにしています！！

 

ワールドカップはいつでもとてもわくわくするようなイベントです。

そして今年は日本がいい結果を残せるように願っております。

 

ところがみなさん、今回日本が激闘を繰り広げるであろうグループはとてもレベルが高く、

なんとイギリスやドイツと肩を並べる事になります。

（そういったグループのことを”死のグループ”と呼んだりします。）

 

個人的には日本を応援しています。

というのも私の故郷のアイルランドは予選を通過することができませんでした。

 

ヨーロッパにはおよそ55の国々がありますので、アイルランドは今回は出場を決めることができなかったんですね。。

本当に激戦区です。。

 

次回がんばれ！アイルランド！
