Autumn and athletics

Hello everyone,

I think it’s safe to say the seasons are beginning to change. I can feel the air starting to cool a little in the evenings, and I was able to sleep through the night without air-conditioning. Soon, we will reach the peak of nice, comfortable temperatures for part of the year, just like in spring. While the temperature is nice in Autumn, unfortunately Japan is prone to having typhoons and thunderstorms at this time of year. Hopefully it isn’t too unsettled this year.

Did you catch any of the world athletics championship last week? It took place in Tokyo, and it feels like the Olympics took place there not long ago, but in fact it’s been 4 years. Japan picked up 2 bronze medals and Ireland won a silver. It was surprising to see an Irish person win a medal because they rarely have success in track and field. However, in the women’s heptathlon, Ireland’s athlete beat her personal best in 5 of the 7 events to win silver. It’s a tough event to take part in, with events such as 800m, long jump, javelin, and so on. Some of our students were lucky enough to go see the championships live in Tokyo. We’re lucky to live just one hour away from one of the world’s major cities.

季節が少しずつ変わり始めているのを感じますね。夜になると空気が少し涼しくなってきて、昨晩はエアコンなしでぐっすり眠ることができました。もうすぐ、春と同じように一年の中でも快適な気温のピークを迎えます。秋は気温が心地よい一方で、日本では台風や雷雨が多くなる時期でもあります。今年はあまり荒れないことを願っています
