Hello everyone,

It’s hot at last! I know it’s still spring, but it feels like summer now, with the heat and humidity rising day by day. I have to wear sun cream outside now on sunny days. Last Sunday we went to the Fuji Dance Festival in Central Park. Dance groups from all over Shizuoka put on performances. It was a great day out in the nice weather. They had many stalls that are common at festivals all over Japan. They sell fried, chicken, yaki-soba, grilled beef, chocolate bananas and more. My daughter’s favorite is shaved ice with syrup, “kaki-gori”.  We get it at every festival to cool down. This event reminded me that festival season is coming. Every city in Japan has festivals throughout the summer. They vary in size from small community events, to huge city-wide festivals. The biggest in Fuji are the Yoshiwara Gion Festival and Fuji Festival. Every city has its own song, parade and a fireworks display in the evening. I’m looking forward to the festival season this year!

Last week at Hario we had fun easter activities such as egg colouring and egg hunting. Our students had a great time, and learned a lot about easter and how it is celebrated. They got the most important thing about easter, a chocolate egg! I got a box of chocolate eggs from my family in Ireland last week. So I’ve been busy eating as much chocolate as I can.

It’s the final week before Golden Week, and the end of the “Heisei” era. On May 1st, Japan will usher in the new “Reiwa” era as the Emperor gives up his title to his son. This new era name stands for peace and harmony. Many people will have a long holiday because of this celebration. I’m going to play some tennis during the vacation. I just hope it doesn’t get too hot! However you spend Golden Week, enjoy the break!

みなさん、こんにちは。アランです。

暑くなりましたね。まだ春ではありますが、夏が来た感じです。

私は外出する際は、日焼け止めをつけなければいけません。先週、中央公園で富士市のダンスフェスティバルが開かれました。

静岡県中のダンスグループ達が演技をしていました。非常にいい天気でしたし、たくさんのお店がでていました。

私の娘のお気に入りはかき氷で、食べて涼んでいました。祭りをみていると夏がくるのを感じます。

日本では、夏を通してたくさんのお祭りが開かれます。この辺りで大きいお祭りというと、祇園祭や富士まつりです。

その土地の踊りや歌、パレード、そして花火。今年もみるのが楽しみです。

先週は、イースターということで卵に色付けをしたり、卵探しなどのゲームをクラスで行いました。

生徒達は、イースターをどう祝うのかなど学べたのではないでしょうか。卵型のチョコレートを皆、一つずつもらいましたね。

私も家族からチョコレートエッグが送られてきました。今週は、チョコレートを食べるのに忙しいです。

そして、ゴールデンウィークまで一週間となりました。

平成が最後を迎えます。

５月１日からは「令和」になります。これは平和と調和を意味していると聞きました。

今年は長いゴールデンウィークです。私はテニスを楽しもうと思っています。
