Hey, so today is Saint Patrick’s Day. St.Patrick’s Day, originally started in Ireland but has now spread all around the world with many different countries celebrating the day in their own special way. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, there are many legends surrounding him. For example some people believe that he drove the snakes out of Ireland and that he used a shamrock to explain the holy trinity.

Although the day is big in Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Day is even bigger in the United States. As many Irish moved to America, the day soon became celebrated over there. Now in America, Saint Patrick’s Day is a time for celebration of all things Irish. Cities such as New York, Boston and Chicago are famous for their celebrations and also how they celebrate the day. For example in Chicago they sometimes colour their river green to mark the holiday.  Irish and non-Irish people normally celebrate the day by wearing something green. People will eat Irish food and drink Irish beer to celebrate the day. Overall Saint Patrick’s Day has become a time for people to relax and have a good time with friends and family.

今日は、セイントパトリックデイです。アイルランドの祭日、お祭りではありますが、今では世界中に広まりこの日を祝っています。

セイントパトリックは、アイルランドの聖人で彼に関する伝説がたくさんあります。

例えば、セイントパトリックはアイルランドからへびを追い払ったとか、クローバー・シャムロックを使って「三位一体」を説いたという伝説もあります。

セイントパトリックデーはアイルランドにとって大きな日です。今では沢山のアイルランド人がアメリカに移住し、アメリカでも大きなお祭り、パレードが開かれるようになりました。アメリカのシカコでは、この日を祝うために川が緑にされたり、アイルランド人でもそうでない人も何か緑色のものをみにつけて祝ったり。緑の食べ物を食べたり、アイルランドのビールを飲んだり色々です。セイントパトリックデーは今では世界中の人が家族や友人とリラックスして楽しめる日になってきています。
