Hello everyone,

This is, without doubt, the longest rainy season I have ever experienced! We’re almost at the end of July and it just keeps raining. We had heavy showers over the weekend and yesterday. There were two separate thunderstorms on Sunday. I wonder if it will ever end this year. It’s as if the rainy season forgot to end and summer forgot to begin. I have been hearing some more cicadas recently. They were very loud this morning, so hopefully summer is on the way. August and obon week is just around the corner, and that is usually the height of summer here, when temperatures soar. The weather forecast says that there will be some more rain in the next few days, but after that it should be okay.

This week is Sean’s last week with Hario. The staff and students here are all sad to see him go. He’s been a great teacher and co-worker this past year with us. I hear the laughter of students from his classroom so I know they always had fun in his classes. This week is their final classes with him, and from next week they will join Matt or me. Sean is moving on to Fukuoka on Kyushu Island. It’s very far from here, so he’s taking a flight from Shizuoka at the weekend. I’ve never been so far west in Japan, but I’d like to visit Kyushu someday. I hope Sean settles in well there. Sometimes they have severe weather such as heavy rain or typhoons, but Sean and I are used to rain because it rains so much in Ireland and the U.K. I met Sean just once before he started working here a year ago, and when we were looking for a new staff member, I knew he would be just right for the job. He’s been a great teacher here, always ready to help and give 100%. I’ve really enjoyed working with him, so it’s sad to say “sayonara!” Best of luck in Fukuoka!

みなさん、こんにちは。アランです。

これまで経験したことがない梅雨ですね。もうすぐ７月も終わろうとしているのに、まだ雨が続いています。週末も、昨日も大雨でした。日曜日には、雷＆嵐もありました。梅雨が終わらないのではないかと心配します。梅雨が終わらなければ、夏が来ません。最近、せみの声をよく聞くようになりましたから、もうすぐ夏が来るのでは。８月やお盆の季節ももうすぐです。その時期は、いつも猛暑です。天気予報によれば、雨が数日続いたあとに梅雨があけるようです。

そして今週は、スタッフのショーンの最後の週です。生徒の皆さんも我々スタッフも、彼との別れがさみしいです。彼は素晴らしい講師であり、すばらしいHARIOスタッフの一員でした。彼のクラスからは、笑い声がよく聞こえてきました。皆さんが彼とのクラスを楽しんでいたことと思います。今週が最後となり、来週からは、彼のクラスは私やマットが引き継ぎます。ショーンは福岡に引っ越します。ここからは遠いですね。今週末に飛行機で福岡に旅立ちます。私は、九州地方には行ったことがありませんが、いつか彼を訪ねてみたいと思います。ショーンは、１年前にHARIOに来ました。いつも協力的で１００％の力を発揮してくれました。私は彼と働けて楽しかったです。なのでサヨナラをいうのはつらいですが、福岡で頑張ってね。お幸せに。
