Hey, 

So last week it was the 5th of November. For anybody who has not spent time in the United Kingdom, the 5th of November is the date when many towns and cities across the UK host firework displays. In the UK the event on the 5th of November has three different names, the first is called Guy Fawkes Night, second is Bonfire Night and the third is called Firework Night.  The event started in 1605 on the 5th of November, when a man called Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the House of Lords. He however failed to blow up the House of Lords and in celebration of King James I surving the attempt, people lit bonfires around London and attached scarecrows looking like Guy Fawkes to them to be burned. Nowadays there are less burning of Guy Fawkes and more firework displays, but in some small towns they do still follow the old traditions.

みなさん、こんにちは。先週の１１月５日は、イギリスの至るところで花火大会がお子の合われました。この花火は、ガイ・フォークスナイトや、ボンファイヤーナイトなどとよばれるイギリスの風習の花火大会です。このイベントは、１６０５年の１１月５日に始まりました。ガイ・フォークスが上院議場を爆破しようと試みましたが、失敗に終わり、ジェームズ一世たちが無事であったことを祝い、人々がロンドンのいたるところで、ガイ・フォークスのようなかかしに火をつけて燃やすという風習ができました。現在では、そのかかしを燃やすよりも、いたるところで花火大会が行われるようになりましたが、田舎の町ではいまだ、かかしを燃やす風習が残っています。
