Hello everyone,

It’s back to school for most of our students this week. All over Japan, they are busy getting ready for the new school year. If they are at Junior high or high school, they have lots of homework to finish before starting back. My daughter is going to start Elementary school on Wednesday. I’m looking forward to seeing her first day at school, I can’t wait to see how her school life will be. I’ve never been to an entrance ceremony before, so I’m excited to see what goes on. All kids are a little nervous about starting at a new school. Fear of the unknown is perfectly normal. In my daughter’s case, many of her kindergarten classmates will go to the same elementary school, so at least she will know some of the students. I remember when I went to secondary school for the first time. Secondary school is like junior high and high school combined, from 12 years old to 18. I was the only student from my elementary school to get in so I didn’t know anyone. I was terrified! But soon I made some good friends with whom I’m still close now. Thinking about my school friends, we’ve spread all over the world. My best friends from school in Ireland now live in the U.K., U.S.A., Canada, Hong Kong and Australia. It’s very interesting to have video calls with them and everyone is in a different time-zone! I think we should cherish the friends we make at school. They will be there with you through the thick and thin. Enjoy your time together and don’t forget about them after you graduate. Good luck back at school everyone!

今週はほとんどの学校や幼稚園が始まりますね。皆さん、新学期の準備で忙しいことでしょう

中学や高校生達は、たくさん宿題を終わらせなければいけません。

私の娘も明日から小学校に入学します。彼女は学校初日を楽しみにしています。彼女の学校生活がどうなるか私は楽しみです。

入学式に行ったこともないので、それも楽しみです。

子供たちは新しい学校を始めることに少し緊張しています。誰もが未知への恐れはありますね。

私の娘の場合、幼稚園の同級生の多くが同じ小学校に通うので、何人かはすでに知っています。

私は初めて中学校に行った時のことを覚えています。アイルランドの中学校は12歳から18歳までの中学と高校を合わせたようなものです。自分の小学校から入学したのは私だけだったので誰も知りませんでした。すごく怖かった！でも、すぐに友人を作ることがき、その仲間は今でも仲良くしています。その彼らは世界中に住んでいます。英国、米国、カナダ、香港、オーストラリア・・・。彼らとビデオ通話をするのは、すごく面白いです。皆が違う時間（タイムゾーン）にいます。
