Hey, 

So a few days after Christmas we have New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. In the UK there are a few traditions that people do to celebrate New Year’s Eve. For most people in the UK, New Year’s Eve is not a public holidday and as such they have to go to work. However in the evenings many people have parties either in their homes, pubs or clubs with their friends and families. Also like many other countries around the world, cities in the UK organises outdoor gatherings and firework displays. 

Just before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, people in the UK get together and sing a traditional song called “Auld Lang Syne”. Then after the clock strikes midnight people cheer, some people hug and kiss each　other and others wish people a happy New Year. 

This year I will be attending the countdown in Kuala Lumpur. How about you ? Will you be attending any New Year’s Eve events ?

みなさん、こんにちは。

クリスマスイブの後には大晦日と年越しがあります。イギリスでは、大晦日を盛大に祝う風習があります。イギリスの人のほとんどが、大晦日はお休みではなく仕事をしています。しかし夜になると家やバーなどで友人や家族と大晦日を祝います。そして花火で祝うカウントダウンを祝います。

大晦日の１２時まえには、皆が集まって、「オールドラングサイン」（懐かしき日々）を歌います。時計の針が１２時を過ぎると、皆で祝いハグやキスをし、新年に思いを込めます。

今年、私は新年をクアラルンプール（マレーシア）で迎える予定です。みなさんはどんな予定をたてていますか。大晦日のイベントに参加しますか。
