Hello everyone!

This week I am going to talk about the BBC, the UK’s national Television and radio broadcaster.

The British Broadcasting Corporation more commonly known as the BBC or affectionally as “The Beeb” has been broadcasting for over 100 years. It has become a reliable source of news, entertainment and educational content for audiences both in the UK and around the globe.

今週は、英国の国営テレビおよびラジオ放送局である BBC についてお話します。

一般的には BBC、あるいは親しみを込めて「ザ・ビーブ」として知られる英国放送協会は、100 年以上放送を続けています。

It is the oldest broadcaster in the world, first established in 1922 as then The British Broadcasting Company it transitioned to the BBC we know today on New Year’s Day 1927, and is now funded by an annual television licence fee which anyone who wants to watch live television broadcasts in the UK has to pay.

BBC は世界最古の放送局であり、1922 年に当時の英国放送会社として設立され、1927 年の元旦に今日知られている BBC に移行しました。現在は、生放送を視聴したい人なら誰でも視聴できる年間テレビ受信料によって資金がまかなわれています。

The BBC broadcasts these days on TV, Radio and over the Internet via iPlayer, an app you can watch a vast library of programming of live, current and older TV shows, movies, news and sporting events.

The BBC also markets its programming around the world with its World News Services and line of popular TV shows such as Doctor Who, Great British Bake Off, Sherlock, and Top Gear.

It also has a large amount of entertainment and educational programming for younger viewers. With the channel CBBC for children between 6-12 and CBeebies for children under 6 years old.
