Many of our students took the Eiken exam last weekend. They worked very hard in preparation, so I hope they are happy with their results. I know how hard they worked because we had extra grammar lessons here on recent holidays and weekends. Well done to you all!

Last weekend, people rang in the new lunar year. This is primarily in China, but is celebrated in many parts of the world. I didn’t know much about it before, because it isn’t followed in Ireland. In Japan, however, we see each year’s new animal in many places, especially on new year’s postcards. There are 12 animals in total, and this year is the year of the rabbit (but it’s the year of the cat in Vietnam!). I also learned that the year you were born is significant. I was born in the year of the rooster, and that means I am candid, honest, diligent, and easy-going. My wife was born in the year of the ox, who matches well with the rooster. Of course, it’s all just superstition, much like the western zodiac. However, it’s big business and people still read their horoscopes every day in the newspapers. In Japan, people also believe that your blood type can also affect your personality and relationships. What do you think of these? Are you a superstitious person? This month the 13th of January was a Friday. This is considered an unlucky day by superstitious people. Friday the 13th is such a well-known date that there was even a famous horror movie made about it. Every country has their own superstitions about what is lucky or unlucky. What superstitions do you know? I’m not superstitious myself, but I think it’s interesting to learn about different ones around the world. I hope we all have a lucky year.

みなさん、こんにちは

先週はたくさんの生徒たちが英検Ⓡを受験しました。

たくさんしっかり準備してくれていたので、いい結果に終わるといいなと思います

 

英検Ⓡの周辺には休みの日に勉強を頑張ってくれていましたね

 

そして先週末は、中国の正月でしたね。中国独特の文化ですが、世界中で祝われているみたいですね。

アイルランドではあまり聞かない習慣なので、つい最近まで 「Lunar Year」（中国の正月）について詳しく知りませんでした。

 

日本では、至る所で新しい年の干支をよく見かけます。特に年賀状には毎年動物が描かれえていますよね。

 

全部で12匹の動物が登場し、今年はウサギです。（ちなみにベトナムでは猫なんですよ）

 

また、自分が生まれた年はとても重要な意味を持つことになるということについても学びました。

私は鳥年なんですが、つまりそれは正直で勤勉で親しみやすいという意味があります

 

私の妻は牛なので、私とは相性ばつぐんなんです

もちろんただの迷信にすぎませんけどねｗｗ

 

ところがこちらは日本ではとても大きいビジネスにもなっていますが、

日本の皆さんは毎日新聞でうらないを気にしていますよね。

 

また、血液型についても同じくらい関心があって、タイプごとに性格や相性があると信じていますよね

 

あなたはこういった類のことを信じるタイプですか？？？

 

1月13日は金曜日です

ですので、不吉なことが起こると信じる人もいますよね。。。

「13日の金曜日」という映画があるくらいです。

 

またこちらに関しては世界中で「幸運な日」「不吉な日」がありますよね

みなさんは何か知っていますか？

 

私は個人的には信じていませんが、世界中でこのような日があるのは面白いですよね
