School’s out!

Hello everyone,

School’s out! This phrase always puts the “School’s out” song in my head. It’s by Alice Cooper, and the lyrics begin, “School’s out for summer, school’s out forever”. My brother was a big fan of this song, so now anytime I hear the phrase that song starts playing in my head! Today was the last day of the academic year for many students in Japan. The spring vacation begins and they will start the next grade in April. Many of them graduate and move on to a new school. We have been hearing the news from our students about which high school or university they got in to. Two of our students came in last week to tell us they both got in to Tokyo University! We were delighted to hear news, congratulations to them! Our other students have also done very well to get in to good high schools and universities. Starting at a new school can be very daunting, especially if you don’t know many of the students. When I started secondary school, I was the only student from my elementary school who got in. It was quite difficult to enter that school from an elementary school that wasn’t local. So, when I began, I didn’t know anyone there! I was terrified, but I soon made friends, who I still keep in touch with these days. My friends from school in Ireland now live in the U.S.A., Canada, The U.K., Australia, and Hong Kong. Only a few of them still live in Ireland! It’s quite common for Irish people to emigrate to other countries. Maybe that’s why Saint Patrick’s day celebrations are held all over the world. There was a big street parade in Harajuku, Tokyo last Sunday. Big thanks to all of our students who wore green last week! There was even more reason to celebrate last weekend, as Ireland won the six-nations championship in rugby. This contest is held every year between Europe’s strongest six rugby teams, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy. Ireland have won it for two years in a row now!

School’s out（学校が終わった）！

このフレーズを聞くといつも「School’s out」の曲が頭の中に浮かびます

アリス・クーパーの曲で、歌詞は「学校は夏は休み、学校は永遠に休み」で始まります。

弟がこの曲の大ファンだったので、今ではそのフレーズを聞くと頭の中でその曲が流れ始めます。

今日は日本の多くの学生にとって学年最後の日でした。春休みが始まり、4月からは次の学年に進みます。

HARIOの生徒達の多くも卒業し、新しい学校に進学します。生徒たちからは、どこの高校や大学に進学したかの報告を聞いています。先週、私たちの生徒が二人来て、二人とも東京大学に合格！したと報告してくれました。

私たちはこのニュースを聞いてとてもうれしく思いました

他の生徒たちも良い成績を収め、良い高校や大学に入学しました

新しい学校で始めることは、特に知り合いの生徒が少ない場合には、非常に気が遠くなることがあります。中学校に入学したとき、同じ小学校から入学できたのは私だけでした。地元以外の小学校からその学校に入学するのは大変でした。だから、私は誰も知りあいがいませんでしたとても怖かったですが、すぐに友達ができました。彼らとは今でも連絡を取り合っています。彼らは現在、アメリカ、カナダ、イギリス、オーストラリア、香港に住んでいます。その時の友人でアイルランドにまだ住んでいるのはわずか数人だけです。アイルランド人が他の国に移住することは一般的なことです。おそらくそれが、聖パトリックの日のお祝いが世界中で開催される理由です。先週の日曜日、東京の原宿で大規模な街頭パレードがありました。先週緑色の服を着てくれた生徒の皆さん、本当にありがとうございました

先週末、アイルランドがラグビーの6カ国対抗チャンピオンシップで優勝しましたセイントパトリックデーと祝う理由がさらに増えました。このチャンピオンシップは、アイルランド、イングランド、スコットランド、ウェールズ、フランス、イタリアのヨーロッパのラグビー最強6チーム間で毎年開催されます。アイルランドは2年連続優勝を果たしました
