How are you doing? It’s my first blog since the speech contest so I’d like to talk about that a little. It’s the biggest event of our year and the staff and students here work very hard to put it on. About 40 of our students took the stage to give their speeches in front of about 300 people and four judges. Winners were chosen in each category and the first prize winners won Disneyland tickets. Congratulations to everyone who won an award. Furthermore, as the judges said at the speech contest, really everyone was a winner. They overcame nerves to stand in front of everyone and speak English. I was really proud of everyone. There were many more people who did the speech homework but weren’t chosen to speak at the speech contest. We are now doing a round of parents’ day lessons and they are doing the speeches in front of their parents. I hope they can see how hard they’ve worked and the high level of eveyone this year. This is my third year doing the speech contest and I think it’s the highest level so far. Our students really worked on their presentation and pronunciation. I was also proud of our younger students who did a song and dance. They performed 3 songs (one acapella!) with choreography despite the distractions of a bear onstage. It looked really good with everyone in their Halloween costumes. Well done! The photos and DVD will be available soon and I look forward to seeing it back.

みなさん、こんにちは。

いかがお過ごしですか。スピーチコンテストが終わってからの初めてのブログですので、

ちょっとスピーチコンテストについて話したいと思います。

スピーチコンテストはHARIOイングリッシュスクールにとって一年で一番大きなイベントで、スタッフや生徒達も多くの力を注ぎます。４０人の選ばれた生徒達が、３００人の観客と４人の審査員の前でスピーチを披露します。

それぞれのカテゴリーから１、２位を選び、１位に選ばれた生徒さんには、ディズニーランドのチケットが贈呈されます。入賞した皆さん、おめでとうございました。スピーチコンテストで務めた外国人審査員は、出場した全員が勝者だと言っていました。出場者全員が、マイクの前に立つ緊張に打ち勝ち、観客の前で英語でスピーチをしました。私は全員を誇りに思います。４０人だけでなく、スピーチホームワークは約１００人の生徒達がおこないましたが、６０人はコンテストには選ばれなかったことになります。皆さんにもスピーチを披露してほしいので、今は授業参観を行い、そこで保護者の皆さんの前で全員に発表してもらっています。保護者の皆さんが、どれだけ彼らががんばったのか、今年のスピーチのレベルの高さをみていただきたいです。

これが私にとっても３度目のスピーチコンテストになります。これまでで一番レベルが高かったと思います。

私たちの生徒は、本当にがんばりました。プレゼンする能力、発音も素晴らしかったです。

また、PLS１０級と幼児クラスの歌とダンスのパフォーマンスも素晴らしかったです。ハロウィンのコスチュームで舞台が映えました。よくがんばりました。
