Hello everyone,

I’m enjoying the clear and sunny weather we are having at the moment. It has been unseasonably warm these past few days. Winter seems to be more unpredictable in Japan. You don’t know if it’s going to be warm or cold from day to day. In Ireland, however, it’s easy to predict. It’s always cold in winter! There isn’t as much sunlight either, it’s usually cloudy from November to February. I think it helps our mood when it’s sunny during the day. That’s why I really appreciate the sunny winters here. I also like the Japanese invention of the kotatsu. It’s a nice way to keep warm in the cold evenings.

On Monday I went to a Pacific Language School seminar in Tokyo. We use the PLS system of teaching in our classes, so we sometimes attend their seminars. I have been there several times so it was good to see some familiar faces from all over Japan. Some of the attendees live so far from Tokyo that they took a flight to the seminar. It made me realise how convenient it is to live here in Fuji. It only takes one hour by shinkansen to get to Tokyo from here. Fuji is quite far from the big city, so we don’t have to deal with the sky-high cost of living in Tokyo. I have heard that rent prices around there can be very high, even for cramped apartments. Living here, we can get into the city quickly, and we can avoid all the hustle and bustle when we want to. It’s nice to get the best of both worlds!

みなさんこんにちは。

最近は空気が澄んで晴れる日が多く、そんな天候を楽しんでいます。ここ数日は季節のわりに暖かい日が続きましたね。日本の冬の天候は予想しがたいようですね。日によって寒い、温かいがわかりませんが、アイルランドではとても簡単です。冬はいつでも寒いですまた晴れの日も少なく、11月から2月までは曇りの日がずっと続きます。晴れの日があれば寒くとも気分がよくなりますから、日本の冬の天候には感謝しています。そして日本の冬と言えばこたつですが、私はこのこたつが大好きです。寒い朝に温まるにはもってこいですね

さて話は変わり今週月曜日、私は東京にあるパシッフィックランゲージスクールのセミナーに参加してきました。当校ではPLSシステムを採用しているのでたびたびこの様なセミナーに参加しているのです。私もこれまでに何度か出席しましたが、PLSを教えている先生方にまた会え良かったと思いますそのセミナーには東京から遠く離れたところから飛行機で来ている人もいました。それを考えるとここ富士に住んでいるのは便利だなと感じました。ここから新幹線で1時間くらいで東京に着きますからね。東京からは距離はありますが物価などが安い富士、魅力的です。東京の家賃は本当に高いらしいですからね。ここ富士なら、東京にもすぐに行くことができ都会の喧騒もさけることができるという両方を味わえるのはいいことだと感じました
