How’s your week? At Hario we have parent’s day coming up, we’re celebrating the Star Festival with a bamboo tree out front and many students are preparing for interviews for the Eiken test.

Last weekend I organised a little table tennis tournament, kind of as a birthday party. You may have read Sachiyo’s blog. She is competitive and took it very seriously and decided it was the Table Tennis World Cup in Fuji. That was true in one sense, there were many nationalities there; British (me), Irish (Alan), Japanese, Dutch, Australian and Vietnamese. After some warm up and practice we had a tournament. Like the football World Cup, it started with group rounds, and then went on to have quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final. The semi-finals were all Japanese. I hadn’t played table tennis in about 20 years and I’m not great at ball sports. I was knocked out in the quarter-finals. So was Alan. Sachiyo ended up in 3rd place. Congratulations to her. It was a lot of fun. I took a group photo at the end with my selfie stick (that Sachiyo gave me). If you live in Fuji City, you can book that table tennis facility for free. Why don’t you check it out? It’s fun and good exercise. My wife and I are going to start using it regularly.

みなさんこんにちは。

今週はいかがお過ごしですかHARIOではもすぐ授業参観がスタートしたり、七夕の笹を飾ったり、英検2次試験の練習をしたりしています。

 

先週末、私はバースデーパーティーとして卓球大会を開催しました

もしかしたら播本先生のブログをご覧になっているかもしれませんが、播本先生は本当に競争心がつよく、今回の大会も「お遊びだけど真剣かもよ富士の卓球ワールドカップ！！」だと言っていました

それもそのはず、沢山の国籍の方々が集まっていましたからね。イギリス（私）、アイルランド（アラン）、日本、オランダ、オーストラリア、そしてベトナム。最初のウォーミングアップの後、トーナメント方式の大会をしました。

サッカーワールドカップと同じように、最初はグループで予選を行い、準々決勝、準決勝、決勝と進めていきました。準決勝はすべて日本人同士の対決でした。私はというともう20年くらい卓球をしていなかった、そして球技が苦手ということもあり準々決勝敗退という結果に終わってしまいましたアラン先生もです

でも播本先生は見事3位になりましたおめでとうございます
という感じでとても楽しい時間でした

最後は誕生日の時に播本先生からもらった自撮棒でグループ写真を撮りました。もし富士にお住まいでしたら、今回利用させてもらった卓球場を使ってみてはどうでしょうか？なんと無料で利用できますので私は奥さんとこれからもちょくちょく利用してみたいと思っています。
